Timing of seat upgrade requests around status improvements

Hi,

Have a range of upcoming international travel on Qantas - am gold currently but will be Platinum after an upcoming trip. For *another* trip further in the future, should I do my points-based upgrade requests now, or after I become Platinum?

How does the request timing affect your chances - I assume a Platinum upgrade request up to 48 hrs before the flight trumps any gold requests, but timing of request probably affects chances within the Platinum bracket?

Wait till you are Platinum before doing future upgrade requests
