Jetstar - Jetstar's Double the Difference Guarantee

"Offer ends 28 November 2007".

Does that mean it does not apply to flights scheduled after that date or bookings made after that dat or both?

My personal view is JQ already know the amount of people who will use their voucher after taking it up. I mean you need to spend an extra $200 upfront to get $400 back in vouchers.
Good for people who know they will use the voucher, but there will be a % who wont. (Loose email, forget, plenty other reasons)

Beyond the actual voucher, it gives the public a false sense that JQ are monitoring competitors prices and adjusting there own. (So they don’t have to give out vouchers) This is clearly not the case.

Cleaver marketing, and good for the people who can be bothered with the process.

There appear to be a few chances to force JQ to come good with their best fare policy (provided it does infact run beyond the 28/11).

If I was Virgin I'd be working on the upper end of the market - join Star alliance, develop the business programs - maybe consider putting J seats in some of the capital city flights.

Personally, if I was Virgin Blues CEO - I'd buy the rights to "ANSETT" and rebrand the airline - Virgin is synnonymous with cheap. People still remember Ansett as a quality airline with good service.

I just called the JQ call centre and yes they can do the double the difference promo on the dates I mentioned above.

However.... stupid me thought they matched the price and then gave the voucher on top of it. So It would have cost me $560 to get a $840 gift voucher which (had I really needed to fly MEL-OOL-MEL on those dates) would have been good, however as I was only doing it for the hell of it, it defeats the purpose a little.

Nice little bit of excitement for a few minutes though!

Yep. The double difference voucher is only useful if you plan to spend that much in the next 6 months on JetStar. Does anyone know the T&Cs for Jetstar vouchers? Can you use them on Jetstar International?

Well, the AFR had a huge article on Virgin today on the back page, talking about when Toll will sell it off etc, commenting on Tiger and interesting it noted that Virgin has quite risky projects in play (US and Embrarer) - it noted that there have been several problems with several other airlines trying to use the jets.

Hope virgin know what they are doing, because Toll could pull the plug and apparantly Virgin Group won't be as interested because of the relative share prices...?

Interesting that so far Tiger is focussed on MEL. Seems that these Singaporeans actually recognise that 3.5m people is a market worth worrying about (SQ have had 3x daily MEL-SINs for a while) and now Tiger have flights to MKY & ROK and daily to DRW even during low season.

I wonder what destination will be next, as there are gaps in the timetable (TUE, THU, SAT) where planes are sitting around doing nothing. Even looking at the current timetable there are planes missing from the timetable (unless they can achieve a 20 min turnaround at MEL) OOL-MEL arrives at 11:45, MEL-MKY departs at 12:05 - this would surely not be the same plane, and if not there must be other flights to fill the gap. Also a redeye to MEL-PER might be on the cards, connecting to the PER-SIN flights which are timed perfectly for this. (SIN-PER arrives at 22:05, PER-SIN deps 22:35).

Those planes don't just happen to be based in MEL by accident though, it was a business decision. Also having planes based in a city doesn't always mean that the city gets all the flights. Other airlines do fly out of one city into another and onto another place(s) before ending up back in the first city (or not). So far, Tiger don't seem to be doing this.

It is probably easier and more cost efficient, at this point, to have all the Tiger planes overnighting in Melbourne (aside from any on back of clock flying). Given the small size of their fleet, and their point to point style of operation, it does not surprise me that they are doing MEL-somewhere-MEL at the moment.

It doesn't surprise me either, but it's just good for a change that, unlike a certain other carrier and its subsidiary that SYD is not getting all the attention (exc for Tassie and AVV flights).

As for a TSV - DRW service - I'm not sure. I think CNS-DRW is over-serviced - I've been on this route a few times connecting to BNE (it's the same ACFT) and from observation a lot of people do the same. Interestingly, it's cheaper to fly BNE - CNS - DRW than CNS - DRW, even on the same ACFT!

Whist I would welcome any new service to DRW, I'm not convinced we could support a TSV - DRW service. I would think OOL - DRW would be a better route to start with.

I notice JQ have instigated sales on BNE-MKY & BNE-ROK routes. TT must be biting into sales on thru traffic from MEL.

It's a definite possibility. Obviously there must be some market for direct MEL services from these two places, that the others haven't tapped into yet.

Still, $39 sales for BNE to ROK and MKY wont do much to deter people going TT to MEL for $59.
