So does anybody want to speculate if Jetstar removed all remaining JetSaver fares from sale that might be subject to a "Double the Difference" guarantee? Or were they all sold out of those over the school holidays anyway?

Jetstar wouldn't have all eight flights per day filled on Christmas and Boxing Day this far out. THey have simply removed them because of double the difference.

Am i missing something here because it appears possible to make actually make money out of flying Jetstar over Christmas.

The JQ Price difference promotion ends on 28th November.

Ah, I only just worked it out. The important part of the guarantee is

"If you find a published internet airfare on another airline that is lower than the lowest available JetSaver fare on jetstar.com"

If you check out Webjet or travel.com.au you can see there is wide availability of JetSaver fares all over at the $109 price. I tried 15th Dec as an example.

So they can still try and sell out the plane buy using the cheaper fares selling through travel agents while not losing a lot of money honouring the guarantee and sell a number of expensive JetFlex tickets for those that want them. They're not dumb.

There is JetSaver availability on Jetstar.com over the Christmas period, so it looks like just the usual Christmas pricing stuff happening.

Not really wanting to compare Tiger vs Jetstar day by day to work out where the differences are, but I'm pretty sure that Jetstar have their bases covered.

Yep, the offer ends 28 Nov but doesn't this mean that the offer is valid for flights to the end of the schedule with claims made until 28 Nov?

Intersting thought but the JQ website is $109 as well all day. Look like this might be a double the difference chance if my above question is true.

As far as I can tell, the Jetsaver fares are still on the Jetstar site.

Or at least getting Jetstar vouchers for more Jetstar travel :)

Although bear in mind that there aren't lots of TT cheapies over Christmas. I get $159 mostly as the fare when flying TT over the Christmas period.

Very interesting. This has just been changed. I wonder whether Jetstar themselves are constitutiing the guest component viewing this thread.

I find it interesting that DJ are responding to TT over the weekend, while DJ seem to have chosen not to.

:D LOL, I am sure than no one from JQ, would concern themselves too much with anything written by a small bunch of "enthusiasts" on AFF… (That's if they even bother to read us!)

More likely JQ has a predefined process, that swings into action once they are aware of a competitor’s market movements - and the Jet Saver fares temporarily disappearing over the stated period, was only due to a database update.

Perhaps Virgin are trying not to get dragged into a fare war. They may test the waters and see if people will still be loyal etc

DJ have Velocity etc to help nurture loyalty. Neither JQ or TT have that advantage.

Something to remember if travelling as a family is the weight issue. Tiger only allow 15kg per person. You can pre-buy weight on their site at X for each 5 kg extra, at a large discount, but if you dont and end up with more at the checkin then bang, a lot dearer. Don't know that many families that travel light, especially if it includes young females.................

or not-so-young females :-|

Even a lot of guys will use 15kg !
I am not sure i have seen any woman ever traveling with me less than 17-18kg of bags ! when i can often check in with 13-15kg and thats everything.
One reason i don't like LCC's that much.

Looks like they've added:

Melbourne - Mackay : $59.95 one way
Melbourne - Rockhampton : $59.95 one way

Interesting. I don't think Jetstar or Virgin Blue operate these directly.

Meanwhile over at Virgin Blue .....zzzzzzzzzz.zzzzzzzzz.....huh what? ok.......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Wakey, wakey Richard......

lol - although I know you didn't mean it literally - but I have a sneaking suspicion that Richard B wouldn't mind DJ coming under some severe competitive pressure - because it may force Toll to come back to him begging for money, after they reneged on their deal with the Virgin Group to offload a substantial % of DJ after the takeover nightmare of Patrick etc....

DJ are being pretty complacent (which is dangerous) - although they have mentioned a HUGE announcement around Velocity so maybe this is their kill shot coming soon!!

There appear to be a few chances to force JQ to come good with their best fare policy (provided it does infact run beyond the 28/11).

Random date - Wed 5th December.

JQ 430 MEL/OOL 0605 $129
TT 7402 MEL/OOL 0700 $49.95

Double the difference in JQ vouchers = $158.10

Even better - Tue 08th January.

JQ 430 MEL/OOL 0605 $259
TT 7402 MEL/OOL 0700 $49.95

Double the difference in JQ vouchers = $418.10

Yes, those are JetSaver fares. Why do I get the feeling the best fare promo will end in November!
