Re: Strict check in times

I don't object to an airline strictly enforcing check-in times. After all we all want to get away on time without delays.

I do object though if a passenger arrives at check-in at T-60 mins (assume check-in closes T-45 mins) and the airline turns them away at T-45 mins as they have not been processed and check-in now closed. That is a totally low and cowardly act. The passenger should not have to guess how long an airline takes to process passengers at check-in. So if a passenger has arrived to check-in before T-45 mins then the airline should allow then to check-in and not turn them away as they were not at check-in counter but waiting in the check-in queue.

I don't know what TT or JQ does, and don't particlularly care, but I do know that both QF and DJ call flights ~5 minutes before check-in is about to close and processes these passengers. If you turn up after this time then it is entirely your fault and you cannot blame the airline....

Tonight's episode indicated they did too, although whether that is consistent, and what time it is done (and how it is done) was not explained.

There was never any reference as to what was the scheduled flight departure time. The couple kept quoting 11:30 as the time they queued up.

There was 12:20 flight to CBR on Saturdays earlier this year:
Code:
TT 516 MEL 12:20 CBR 13:25 [IMG]http://www.tigerairways.com/img/flight/6.gif[/IMG]	29 Mar 09...30 Jun 09
If this was the one, they were cutting it fine in any case.

Re: Strict check in times

I think I have been paged three times. All after I had checked in (once with two confused boarding times on two BPS, once due to BGI letting me through to departures even though I had been expected to collect bags and recheck in and once through misreading the board time). And that I think goes to the nub of part of the problem here. if I had missed my flight then it would have been my problem to deal with not the airlines.

I have a major issue now with QF going to OLCI that anyone should not be checked in on time - you can check in the day before for god's sake.

Airways TV Show Ch 7

Is there an existing thread already here on the TV show Airways? It is based on Tiger Airlines Australia, and is a spin off of similar US and UK show Airline and Airport.

I happened to catch it last night on 7, so those with foxtel IQ can set it to record.

It certainly reminded me why I DO NOT fly Tiger based on the type of passenger, restrictions etc etc etc.

Please direct me to the appropriate thread if this already exists.

Both looking forward to watching the show when I get back, and dreading it as they have some great deals to ADL I'd love to book. Just $68 from OOL to ADL is really enticing to me.

The price could never be cheap enough to entice me to fly TT.:mrgreen:

The Tuesday night episode showed the type of passengers that fly Tiger Airways; those that missed a flight to Canberra were going to stay at some Caravan Park, I almost fell over laughing over that one. :D

Another interesting one was those that did the Adelaide-Alice Springs turn around to deliver a hamper was pretty good, I didn't think you could do a turn around flight on Tiger as you wouldn't be able to check in on time.

I guess if a camera film crew is following you, anything may be possible. :p

If you are aware of the restrictions which aren't all that different to say jetstar and arrive at the terminal within the time frame, there is absolutely nothing wrong with tiger

similarly, the "type of passenger" argument is pretty soft, i've flown with many of "that type of passenger" on qantas and virgin flights many a time

If you look at the schedule there is only a 30 min turnaround in Alice for the flight :!:

I guess that depends upon how you define 'type' :!: I agree with BB on this one. ;)

in the end, its all abit of meh in relation to who i fly with, i've done tiger airways flights and go in chairmans lounge when i fly for work, people are people and i couldn't care less what "type of people" they are (i live in my own world )

So they'll bend the rules when it suits them :!: :p
Or they checked the people in for the return flight in adelaide, as I have often done when flying QF (not sure if this is possible on TT)

As for the type of people. I've stayed in MANY caravan parks (maybe that proves the point). At OLP, at Port Augusta in need of a sleep before driving onwards, at darwin when the value inn wasn't available. Nothing wrong with caravan parks and you can get great value for money. Same with backpackers that often individual rooms with ensuite - basic, cheap, functional.

Let me clear up my reference. Whilst often we find infrequent travellers on DJ or QF, the times I fly are typically made up of pax that travel regularly and know how to move in and around the airport and in and around the plane both getting on and off.

The pax they are showing at the moment are often first time, or at best infrequent travellers, so of course the whole flying thing is exciting band/or scary, and of course some people rely on their particular flight as a part of their overall holiday experience. Whilst I and I assume many others here see the flight as the big bus in the sky, and simply a means of transport. And those that have to walk through the metal screener 5 times because there is always something still in their pockets are annoying, but I guess they don't really know any different...

Not sure where I am going with this ramble, but my comment was not meant to be degrading.

With some respect wallaceJ, I believe you have failed in "not meaning your comment to be degrading".
