RooFlyer, I'm intrigued:
1. is there anything about QF that you like?
<snip>
John Phelan. I have liked Qantas very much. They have been my international airline of choice for over 30 years and domestic since Ansett karked it. My database tells me that I've flown with them about 41% of all sectors flown and 50% by distance in the past 15 years (1.8 mill km total and counting).
I like their safety record, the obvious skill and professionalism of their crews, their 'Australian-ness' when flying international and their F lounges and the new-ish SIN lounge.
If I didn't like Qantas (in general) I wouldn't give a stuff about the current debacles and you wouldn't hear anything from me.
Do you understand that, I wonder?
I AM extremely negative about Qantas at the moment. The web site 'enhancement' cough-up; the silly degradation of some in flight services (eg Café breakfast); the degradation of QFF services (MASA for example), the silly spin that's put out. The sheer mindlessness of some changes - making the web site optimised for tablets and phones, to the detriment of regular PC monitors - RATHER THAN having a web site that self adapts to the type of device being used for example. The insultingly obvious slow strangulation of Any Seat Awards at Classic prices - rather than just being transparent about the need to get rid of them to increase profitability, as another example.
I want Qantas to be profitable, as I want it to be around in 5, 10 and 20 years. Constantly coughing up the web site and other service deployments and degrading services isn't going to achieve that, so I rail against them. You may continue to say 'no biggie' or 'tut tut' - and good luck to you. I happen to be passionate about preserving Qantas as a decent airline, so I'm vocal.

2. given your overwhelmingly negative mindset, why on earth do you fly with them?
Well, actually, I'm not at the moment!
I do vote with my feet and my flying dollars. I've achieved WP requal 4 months into my year, so my international flights over the next 3 months are on UA (F to USA), Finnair (J to Europe #) and Emirates (F to Jordan via DXB). I got to Air Canada's 'Super Elite 100K' in short time last year when I got jack of QF to LAX.
# OK, its QF to connect with AY in SIN, but AY code share!
Domestically, its been mainly Virgin for some time, including J when the client springs for it.
Put all that in your pipe and smoke it.
