The Velocity Status Run Master thread

As one of those newbies that was pretty much the number I'd set myself before I thought I would request access. Figured a community service should at least be for people who are adding to the actual community. That being said, I wasn't in a postion to do a run for some time anyway so immediate access wasn't a huge issue.

Virgin went one a recruiting drive in the last two years and quite a few of their staff have had a presence on AFF for some time who got jobs, thats a good thing in terms of Virgin understanding the how we think, but makes line in the sand type qualifications difficult to enforce.

I don't mean to swing off topic, but as a noob I'm still trying to understand the main advantage of doing status runs just to keep the current level. I guess it makes sense to keep a really high level but as a silver member I don't really see the advantage (except the baggage allowance) that I would want to fly around just to maintain it? I'm genuinely interested on the main reasons for status runs :)

It's a matter of personal value placed on the perks which the status level affords. Personally getting Gold has turned travel from a chore into something often more akin to a hobby or recreational activity.

Gold Membership | Velocity Frequent Flyer

From my perspective the ability to skip queues at checkin/bag drop, security and boarding are a massive advantage (I REALLY hate queuing) in the past I would just turn up late to avoid it, now I arrive early and have a relaxing drink or bite to eat in the lounge!

Only really makes sense for gold & plat. Main reason for me is the lounge access.

if anyone wants access I think you can request at that link but you'd also need to PM me so I can verify your AFF 'regularity', although as a relative newcomer I may not be the best arbiter of this... suggestions welcome!
I trust my position here might help me get access - PM sent and request at the link done :D ;)

I've only been Red, Silver and Gold but have foiund that theres very little difference between Red and Silver whereas theres a MASSIVE difference between Silver and Gold (and I would imagine a smaller difference between Gold and Platinum)

hehe I guess so.
Sorry I'm taking so long guys... the inbox and PM limits are kinda cramping my style. I'll get to everyone eventually... but at this stage I'll be exercising a little caution RE new users and known Virgin employees... especially if they aren't too forthcoming about the fact!

We don't all get access to the VA "Club"...this is a bit like that:p
I always figured, if VA wanted to know where the "good" status runs were, they didn't need our spreadsheet... they could just get one of their IT staff to query their own database!

It's actually a real shame that the need for this spreadsheet has arisen but I gather that VA will gain access if they so want. Let's hope they don't want.

Forget that - isn't it just a lot easier to see your options when it's in a spreadsheet format?

Just checked out the AFF status runs doc, thumbs up to all those contributors.

For a serious statushound with lots of points, time and wants to cannily re-qual Gold or Plat the easy way, hubba hubba :D. Pity BNE isn't a great starting point...

Thinking of doing the NTL run soon. Don't really want to do it all in one day, is there much to do/see in Newcastle?

Wineries, dolphins, beautiful beaches, thriving Arts community. Airport is a LONG way from town, suggest a hire car as transport limited and taxis to airport are around $70 each way
