The Velocity Status Run Master thread

thanks - think I'm going to look at J through MEL then and maybe use the 2FOR1 for something else once I've got the SCs then... assume there's no benefit booking through another carrier or anything fancy - just through VA and take pot luck on the metal?

Another option is FLEXI through MEL on VA. On 30/3 pricing at $582 for 60sc, 5.5 hours.

I have a QUESTION and I cant find the appropriate thread to post it in, i swore I saw one but now can't find it!
My VA Gold Review date is 15th April. I only need 15 more status credits, which I'll get in the next few weeks.

I am however planning a trip to Perth and Auckland in the easter school holidays, which are both before april 15th.

SO, lets say I earn the 15 i still need by 30th Jan.
What happens the status credits I will earn on the trips to Perth and Auckland? Do they disappear at the april 15th status review?

thanks in advance,

Do they disappear at the april 15th status review?

No....and yes. The SCs are on a rolling basis and stay in your account for one calendar year from the date they were earned. That means those Easter SCs will still be counted in a bid for platinum, right up until Easter 2017, however they won't count for your next year gold renewal as they were earned in this years period.

So the answer to your question is really dependent upon what you want them for.....platinum attainment between Easters 2016 and 2017, they will count toward that..........gold renewal in 2017, no help at all as they will have expired before your 2017 review date.

Thanks for the clarification. ;)

Unfortunately I do want them for my 2017 Gold Review, and I am taking the flights for holidays and as I am a high school teacher I can only travel during school holidays (so no flexibility with the dates)...As I rarely travel for work and pay for my own travel, its unlikely I will reach Platinum, but who knows!

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Hi is it just me or is it more expensive to redeem velocity point for flights than it is with Qantas. Qantas has classic rewards flight with lower points conversion than Virgin.

This is going a bit OT, but from memory the redemption rates are all roughly the same for domestic. International is different and depends on the operating carrier – i.e. EY/VA flights cost less than SQ (but points can be transferred to SQ which makes them more valuable).

You'd need to look at a few specific examples, but I believe they're similar.

What route you talking about and how far in advance?

I just looked at MEL-SYD on 17th March, QF426 is 8,000 points (as I don't have enough QF points for this booking I am unable to see what the fees & taxes amount is) and VA837 is 10,200 points or 6,900 + $21.11

I've seen from other forums that QF fees & taxes are often quite large, but I don't use them so I can't comment

I looked at a flight from Mel - Vietnam for April 1st - 22nd and on Qantas classic rewards it cost 48-52k for a return trip whereas on Virgin it requires 106,500 points. The reason I wanted to ask is rather than have two frequent flyer programs operating at once i'll just stick to one instead.

The reason for this is that VA don't fly there and it is a codeshare reward on SQ metal (always more expensive). I just had a quick look on SQ and saw that MEL-HAN on SQ in random dates in April, would be 42,500 krisflyer + $631 in taxes. This is 57,375 VA points.

Not sure what the taxes are with the QF reward.

I only use VA and often transfer points to SQ for reward flights or upgrades, but you need to work out which is best for you. I am VA platinum and *A Gold, that is why I choose the way I do

Yes family pooling you will get 360SC if you purchase a flexi fare. If you are just starting out then you will need to have 4 sectors as well, sectors are earnt on VA marketed and operated flights only, basically you will need to have a VA code flight. Also sectors are actual bum on seat, these do not pool

Y = Economy
J = Business

pretty sure it's VA marketed flight on partner or VA operated flight counts as eligible sector. I was credited an eligible sector with VA marketed air NZ flight.
