The Velocity Status Run Master thread

pretty sure it's VA marketed flight on partner or VA operated flight counts as eligible sector. I was credited an eligible sector with VA marketed air NZ flight.

That's what I said: eligible sectors are earnt on VA marketed and operated flights. Any flight with VA code flight will count as eligible sector, so VAxx_x on NZ metal will count as eligible sector

What you said isn't quite right as the 'operated' bit is irrelevant

eg SYD-BNE on an Virgin operated aircraft with EY flight number: no Eligible Sector
SYD-AUH on an Etihad operated aircraft with VA flight number: yes Eligible sectior

Is an eligible sector exactly as it sounds? i.e. if I fly BNE>MEL>HBA and the flight number changes at MEL, I get 2x eligible sectors?

I am currently a Gold velocity member with a September annual review date ( I have already achieved my SC to retain Gold for 16/17 and will complete my qualifying sectors in June). I could achieve Platinum if I earn 110 status credits by 10 April 2016 (my status credits and qualifying sectors will begin to expire from this date). I don’t currently have any travel plans and thought that it wasn’t worth the expense of flying just to achieve the Platinum status. Having read the posts on this thread, I am now reconsidering this. I’d therefore appreciate feedback on the following questions:

  1. Am I right in thinking that if I achieve Platinum in say March 2016, my status review date will now become March 2017?
  2. Will I automatically default back to Gold in March 2017 if I have not met the Platinum requirements i.e. regardless of whether I have met the Gold requirements in this period?
  3. Any cheap way of earning 110 status credits before 10 April (We family pool and my husbands credits go to me)? Visiting family in NZ could be an option, open to the cheapest way of earning (we are in Brisbane).

1. Yes
2. Yes, I'm pretty sure VA has a soft landing.
3. BNE-CNS in Flexi $275 one way gives you 30 SCs. $599 one way in Business = 60 SCs. Cheaper with a Promo code booked 20 days out.

Thanks Kevrosmith. Should have mentioned that my points balance is fairly healthy, so I could consider the Any Seat reward option to get status credits?

1) Yes your new review date will be March 17
2) Yes you will soft land to Gold if you do not reach 800SC
3) BNE-MEL on Flexi will earn 30 each way, so a weekend away with husband will be enough to get you there. BNE-SIN will also get you 30SC each

Here I am thinking kevrosmith just quoted QF J rather than VA J until I checked! When did VA hike their J fares from circa $539 to $599? They seem to have slid that one in without me noticing (mind you, I haven't been flying VA for a while and now there is no benefit over QF).

I am in the same situation, already requalified Gold till June 2017. Having spend a year as a Plat I didn't think it was worth it to try to achieve it. So its either points or cheap fares until the current review date passes.

Agree. Crunched the numbers last night against the additional benefits of Platinum over Gold and didn't think it a worthwhile return on investment (would have to be flying a lot more for the 100% bonus points earn to kick in).

Yep very little difference.

I have flights booked which will mean I requalify, but because I'm doing a lot more travel to Asia now than before, I will be switching my earn to maintain *A Gold

Just as a datapoint. I dropped down from Gold to Silver for 24 hours (flew SYD-BNE-LAX rtn during review period). Was given the 2 PS lounge passes but my hotel/car hire selections were not reset

I believe the car/hotel are additional one time things. To maintain the levels within each program you need to fulfill the program requirements eg min nights/min days hire etc. I'd be curious to know if you reached gold again would these be available

Sorry not clear. I am back at SG but no reset.

Previous reports have said they do reset. Not sure if this is a permanent change or just because the drop was brief
