Look cut this out you lot - we'll have 1 ooo ooo posts by daybreak at this rate.

Does anyone know what day is best for cheap fuel in Madrid?

No but it's a lot cheaper in Boston than Key West at the moment :!:

I heard that people in glass houses shouldn't get dressed with the lights on.. is that true?

I had to go and leave you lot to it last night (visitors for a BBQ, you know how it is). And you disappointed me a little. I was expecting to see this threat up to 5 pages by the time I got to it today. Oh well, maybe later. But you will have to do it without my help since we are off for our annual family jaunt this afternoon to score a few more HH stay/night credits.

True off topic - Digital SLRs

Hi all,

And now for something completely off topic - anyone here a keen photographer?

After many years of resistance, I'm now replacing my beloved Nikon F90x with a brand spankin' new digitial equivalent. I've been looking with much interest at the very nice D70s, but now torn between waiting another month (and an additional thousand bucks) for the D200.

Anyone here own a D70s, and if so, thoughts and comments?

Cheers all, merry christmas and thanks for all the help thru '05.

Yep. I have a CoolPix 5000, a Canon something, and several still functioning cameras that are at least 20 - 30 years old.

In my experience you can't really go wrong with a Nikon, and the D70s is a nice camera. Don't fall into the trap of waiting "just another month" for a new model to be released. The technology changes so much you'll never buy anything that way.

Hey newflyer, what's that - a real question in an OffT topic :?:

Same with me - had to have a haircut and scalp massage....and nothing better than sitting in a funky salon with beauties all around.

I'll be timing down over the next few days and timing out for 3 weeks on my trip, so I expect this thread to be continued on in the best traditions of AFF.

Damien,

Nikon make some very nice stuff indeed, as proven by my now 17 year old F801s, which, up until a few months back, was still being used to shoot a fair bit of work stuff. By my estimates, I've shot over 1,000 rolls of film on it (no idea for previous owner, but would have been through a few), and it hasn't missed a beat. The F90x is the same, albeit only about 400 rolls. I'm assuming you're happy with the 5000 - I have seen some real nice stuff from those bad boys!

The wait for the D200 is not due to new technology so much as a more durable build quality (has magnisium chasis and gasketted etc.) Indeed, from the specs, the technology and end results from both are fantastic.

I'm just wondering whether I need the extra durability (as I'm no longer shooting on a very regular basis (ie, daily) and whether a D70s would suffice.

I'm just trying to picture the look of utter disbelief and  when regulars log in tonight to see a brand new thread already 3 pages in length in under 8 hours and they missed all the fun...

Yes, well that would be me.

Talk about a train wreck of a thread!

Now that I've joined the party, and there has been some discussion of buses, I thought that I would post a photo for no good reason:

Anyone ever get to ride this one at MEB?

I have an F90x too, with a date back, speedlight and a few lenses. I've been thinking it was time to get a digital SLR too. Let me know what you decide.

Hi newflyer. I've got a D70S and it's a beautiful piece of equipment. Apparently the D70 and D70S have sold more than Nikon's suite of other cameras combined. And I can see why - the D70 is only a couple of years old and the D70S was released earlier this year but already they're classics (think ipod).

Easily the best camera I've ever owned. I've also got a Olympus C-4040Zoom and a fun Polariod i-zone. I helped my Mum select a Sony Cybershot this year too, and I sometimes use a Canon EOS Kiss at work.

The Canon is smaller with easier portability though for the romantics there is no other choice than a full-size SLR (I used to use a Pentax SLR as a kid). I have two professional photographer friends who also have the D70S and equally rave about its performance. If you need other testimonials than check some photography forums. In summary, I LOVE my D70S :!:
