The totally off-topic thread

Because a cauliflower can be easily cut in half or quarter as it is 'meatier'. Try and do that to brocoli and it falls apart so sold by weight.
Maybe elsewhere in Oz ? but they are both grown in the area I live and broccoli can easily be cut in half without falling apart so I'm skeptical that is the reason

FFS this is a FF forum, not a collective of constitutional law  Quoting different views, opinions, articles is what makes this thread work..... Jeez, have you ever read this thread?

This thread is a level below the humour thread :D

Well, that's a rant in the TOT thread if I've ever seen one.:) Is that not what TOT is for?

And yes, the TOT thread is often only just below, or above, the humour thread. They go together, whether you are eligible for the Australian parliament or not!

Quiz Time: Here below is a postcard given to me by crew members in J cabin on recent LX flt ATH-ZRH:

And there note of appreciation on reverse:

Your mission - should you choose to accept it - is to tell me exactly what the small gift was that I gave to said crew members:

I'll bite and put my foot in it right away: you gave them a toy koala.

There we go - can I be told "wrong" now and get it over with? :)

EDIT: OZDUCK had a better shot at this question than I did.

For a second shot... and a really long shot... I'll go with a Caramello Koala...

Now many here will think these are so lame but you just wouldn't believe what a hit these still are in so many places. After showing recipients how to squeeze their backs and they can then 'clasp' a lapel etc they all clipped them on and wore them entire flt. FTR still procureable at Vic Market $4 pack of 12.

No it was a party.I told you I was pretty left wing as a youngster.I think there was one other person who wasn't a Communist party member there that night.

So what *do* you do when... only a tiny CRJ (with the narrowest seats ever) a very large POS comes and sits next to you, squeezing them selves down into the seat with such difficulty that the immovable armrests (exit row, tray table inside) are forced into a 'V' shape to accommodate them? Upper body takes 1/3 of your space.

Do you (a) leave your seat and have a quiet word to the crew or (b) talk to the passenger, in a packed cabin, that they are taking up your space?

FWIW, as we discovered in another thread here on AFF, the US FAA doesn't seem to have mandatory requirements regarding exit rows. Passengers are simply asked if they meet the requirements and whether they will assist if needed, and as long as they say 'yes' you cannot move a POS because of the discrimination act.

If figure either (a) or (b) is going to be hurtful to the passenger.

As it turns out, a pax in first class offered to swap seats with the POS to prevent any further delays to the flight. But I copped an earful from the POS on the way to their new seat, asking if I felt 'good about myself?'. Fair enough, it would have been embarrassing.

But how could this have been approached to avoid the conflict?

Additional information:
POS had been booked in (paid) F class on flight four hours earlier which had been cancelled. Only seats left were in coach on my flight, for those lucky enough to get one. There were 31 on the standby list so the flight was packed.
There was no way I could stay in the seat unless leaning out into the aisle, at a 45 degree angle from the waist up.
Looking up the aisle during the flight the pax still extended into the aisle from the F seat, by about 1/4 of their upper body.

I had the flight to think about it and thought... could perhaps the POS have taken control of the situation? 'hey buddy, I was displaced from the earlier flight, I have to be home tonight, I appreciate this is going to be difficult so... [I'm sorry/lemme buy you a drink/or something else?]

While the pax was inconvenienced by the earlier cancellation, they could have chosen to catch the next available flight with F, the next day.

Absolutely. In a previous life, I led overseas tours into many first, second and third world countries. Always a massive hit and a really cheap way to get something to happen that you had been told was "impossible to arrange" at short notice or without reference to a higher authority.

Have to totally agree with you oh great Champagne Master.I have 30 of these lovely ambassadors in my bag below me in the hold right now. They are always surprisingly well received.Happy to say , also , my A380 was apparently heavily booked, so I was moved from 14K to 2K prior to boarding. Good for a 15 hour segment!! Just an Arabic family of 7 and myself.Start of a long trip, nice beginning, with my little koalas down below.Happy travels John.

Looks like all off road driving and we'll be in a hire car.

Is it possible to enjoy if you dont have a 4WD?

Yes much is accessible by 2WD!!!.
Contact National Parks SA - need a permit /pass and they have lots of info/maps

The access road to Wipena Pound is sealed and much of the public roads around the Ranges which are unsealed are easily 2WD accesible

I always travel with these and Australian key rings and my travelling companions were often disparaging about carrying that tat but after a few reactions of people who were worthy recipients they really got into the swing of things and asked - does that person deserve a koala? I think I'm going to run out in this trip though - my latest was driving out of a car park in a small country town in England and an old lady came over and held up a bunch of keys and said are these yours (yep my holiday let) and would have been very hard to get new ones - she was horrified when I reached in my bag and thought I was going to give her money but delighted with a koala.

I have been buying these for years and giving them to the golf caddies in Thailand. Now I give them caps instead.
