Speaking of life changes and growing up I hosted a small birthday soirée / party on Sunday to celebrate a small milestone birthday earlier this month.

I was in two minds about having a birthday party as they tend to be expensive, stressful and ultimately not enjoyable for the host. The Sunday of a public holiday weekend is a strange time for a party. A reasonable number of people couldn't make it, as it seemed to be a popular weekend for trips away. As it turned out, the numbers worked well as a smaller group, so I could get around and see everyone. A number of members of this forum were in attendance.

Overall it was a fantastic party. Good food, good drinks, and a healthy mix of different social circles. Most importantly no drama / issues / etc.

I will admit there was a bit of "bill shock" at the end, but it was a great event, and a party that most attendees will remember for years to come.

It was a lovely afternoon, thank you

I see ironing as a duty to Australian taxpayers, since I received Australia Government funded training in ironing. Of course, we were taught to iron clothes that had a "special" coating on that was destroyed if ironed. So we were also destroying taxpayer funded property while using our training. But then the NCOs logic was difficult to question:
1. Un-ironed looks like a bag of excrement
2. The coating washes out after 3 washes anyway.

I learned of the benefits of ironing the bed during that same training course.

It sounds like we went to the same Ironing academy. I only iron twice a year now, ANZAC day and Captain's dinner for FRS.

My mum has always ironed Dad's work clothes and he says it helped him get promoted at least once. It might seem like an obvious thing for some but he is an electrician, so an ironed shirt stands out like dogs bollocks and I guess it can be seen as taking pride in what you do.

50 billion to save 4 Liberal seats yet no money to save the car industry. Pork barrelling at its finest.

Funny that. For SA it means over 2,500 jobs. Clearly you dont understand how awful the employment situation is here. Saving 4 seats? Not really. One will go regardless. Its playing your own politics to say this is about saving seats. Every political party in SA is pleased right now. Maybe time to put a bipartisan hat on for a change.

Really - not enough money chucked at the car industry over the years? Got us absolutely nowhere. They never understood that no one wanted to buy the style of cars they kept making. Something to do with supply and demand.

Tens of thousands of jobs will be lost due to the loss of car industry yet we could have bought subs off the shelf overseas. IPA via Liberal party always wanted to get rid of the car industry and thus unions. Military complex production always plays with the public when you tie it into nationalism. What was that public holiday we had yesterday that is suddenly sponsored by everyone?
