80+ y.o. M-I-L ~15 year old motorola ceased working as on the 1st August as 2G service was discontinued.

Flip open to answer and flip shut to end calls; it worked for her.

I have been tasked with replacing and it pricing a pain as she can't handle touch screens.

There are large button devices around but they seem such a profiteering avenue and I'm reluctant to feed the beast.
My MIL is using an unlocked version of this & it seems to be doing what she needs Optus Doro PhoneEasy 623 Prepaid Mobile

We also have a rotating Ekka regime, lucky for us (me) this year is the no Ekka alternate. It's Dallas, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and NYC instead
And I've got to start looking forward to Ekkas and Easter shows in a few years. Hope she grows out of it quick.

Big spending days! Big bucks for entry, rides, show bags.... the list is endless. OS holidays are better value :D

There is a reason that the phones are getting bigger and it is quite alarming really.

The screen sizes keep growing (not really the alarming part but involved in it).

The alarming part is that society's, as a whole, eyesight is rapidly deteriorating and the deterioration is happening from a much younger age.

It is happening across both the developed and developing world.

Now screen size has gotten so large that realistically they cannot increase any further and so problems will start growing.

While screens are getting bigger, I doubt it has much to do with eyesight. More that phones aren't really phones now.

They're computers that just happen to be able to make phone calls. Technology (battery, screens) have advanced to a point where for a lot of people the 'phone' is actually their primary device.

Tell me about it. Who seriously thinks that $38 entry to Ekka is reasonable to go on top of the rides and showbags. My goodness. We'd be just escorting our daughter and paying $76 to walkaround? At least with Luna Park our parents used to give us their ride coupons and we'd be on the dodgems all day.

Overseas holidays are great value and that's where we'll be going. And I think Disneyland and Disneyworld are also out. Way overpriced.

Sadly so do I remember it

Another oldie who also remembers his death well. I was driving to work at about 0530 to start an 0600 morning shift at the then Perth Mail Exchange when the news came over the car radio.

I remember being on a bus into the city and seeing the newspaper headlines that they used to have outside shops "the King is Dead".
It must have been a Thursday for me to have been on a bus to get to work.

4 people in my office phoned in sick with flu this morning.

Not the highest on record, that was 28 people 2 days after a conference.
Does anyone keep records for the general population? Hard to track unless you end up seeing a GP or going to hospital.

Not been a good year for me health wise but luckily haven't had the flu in a long time. The flu shots take care of that.

Yes, public health records. That's what channel 9/7 use each night to claim this year's flu season is much worse than before.

But maybe they just make it up?

Today the Age reported that it could be the worst flu outbreak for many years.
Boy do I know it!!. For years I would breeze though winter with just a couple of snuffles
Within days of my flu shots I caught the hacking cough that lasted for weeks. Then a couple of weeks ago came down with the worst flu I have ever had.
Ten days of sweating and shivering at the same time. Couldn’t even think rationally just kept to a zombie like routine for almost two weeks.
Apparently just a strain that was not in this year’s vaccination programme.

Public health records are not always accurate. But I do agree this year could be the worst on record. It feels that way. Every week we have any number of people out with the flu in the office. Some more than once.

Sigh... Irony for JohnK?
LOL. Life loves to tease.
