Nah, THIS is RooFlyer. And it was just a heavy frost, actually.

I can't see the retailers here introducing surge pricing any time soon - not with the current market sentiment re the big retailers, the patchy performance, the scrunity from the ACCC cases and the treatment of suppliers generally.

I never use a checkout and always go self scan. There is not a huge amount in the trolley as majority of the shopping is done around the edges vs in the aisles but I really find the whole checkout experience plain awkward re making of small talk. I also hate how they pack my groceries, even though I arrange my trolley as I go - they still manage to jumble it all up and overpack bags.

Surge pricing and airline ticket pricing aren't concepts which are far apart from each other, but you're right - except for bargain bins or limited lines (with no raincheck), I don't see an idea like the first 10% of stock gets sold and then the price goes up marginally (or, if the first 10% of stock is sold within 1 hr, price goes up).

I'm not sure how much effort the electronic prices would save. The labels must be clear enough to read, and shelving would need to be clear and distinct so as not to confuse product lines with potentially misaligned LCD labels. Just takes one nutcase not using the system correctly and a potential rearrangement of stock (perhaps to accommodate a new sponsored product line) and you've got ingredients for a real mess. And I suppose the electronic labels are robust enough that prying or pressing fingers, other body parts or flying objects would not damage or impair them.

I use self checkouts mainly because they are faster. Of course, if the staffed checkout lines are fairly short compared to self checkout, it makes sense to use them instead. If I had a huge trolley full of stuff and I was alone, I might consider a staffed checkout over self checkout (unless the staffed checkout counters are equally space limited as the self checkouts).

In reality, I wonder how much stores lose in self checkout theft each year (particularly the old cheap item trick).

Mr FM insists on going to the Farmers markets on Saturdays at 8am - I will be snuggled warmly in bed until he comes home with the shopping.

Your proposition may convince him to change his mind and join you in the sleep in, thereby improving the bed's warmth.

Of course, if it were to rain, that'd probably seal the deal.

you clearly haven't come across Farmers markets people - they are fanatical. We used to go together at 10ish, but he became convinced that to get the best and freshest produce you have to go early. At that point I gave up going :). A little thing like rain would not put him off. He does get back into bed with me when he returns, although that just sucks all my warmth away :)

A couple of days ago I responded to an add promising 3 Solar panel installation quote. I only had one firm call me back and after asking very minimal questions called me back again and sent me a quote, with the following info.
.
Company name: Eurosolar
System size: 5KW
Inverter: Solax single phase (despite asking and being advised whether my home has single or 3 phase power. (It has 3 phase to power the 5.5KvA heat pump)
Panels: 18 255-275watt polycrystalline
Price: $4,900 less STC rebates

Does anyone know of installations by Eurosolar?
I assume all materials to be used are sourced from PRC.
They have include an import/export meter cost, but I don't know how that works when I have 3 phase in but only 1 phase out.
My rooves face east, west and south, so I assume they would only use the west facing roof.

I think it was a very generic quote as the lady who called me calculated the cost on the spot, from my address, an estimate of the average electricity usage and the phase question.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated. TIA
I asked my friend who he would recommend talking to in Canberra and he said Solarhub.

I have to admit that I feel a bit embarrassed sometimes because I grew up in what could be described as a sheltered upbringing as a city boy.

I go to a supermarket (and pretty much only supermarkets, not small grocers or delis etc) to buy almost everything of grocery concern. No, I was not raised with the notion that milk comes from the shops; I am well aware that it comes from a cow who is at a dairy farm with a farmer who works hard to produce that milk. But that said, with all the romance returning to focussing on fresh produce markets, smaller shops and so on, I'm not a big latch on for those things, when in a way more than just getting some good honest produce, it is actually more beneficial to buy from those places compared to supermarkets.

Of course, now that supermarkets also feed heavily into rewards (guaranteed acceptance of credit cards including Amex, points, fuel vouchers, targeted deals, etc.), that doesn't help.

although I refuse to go and do the shopping I have to admit I appreciate what he brings home. There is just no comparison in freshness. It is also nice to meet the actual producers and talk to them (although still not enough to get me out of bed that early).

Tell him to bring a mobile device, then you have one and you can Facetime and talk to the producers without leaving your bed. A bit like from the movie Flubber.

Happy new financial year everyone. I hope all your dreams come true this year.

Well, one wish I had was that there were no surprises this morning. And that includes early client payments. I did one of our BAS on Wednesday and were due a refund as a lot of sales in that company are exports. So GST free. Refund from ATO already in the bank. Except. I had to amend it yesterday but that didn't come into play.

And in Canberra. Oh Denali - best you stay in bed! :)
It was minus 8.7 at 7 am.

Thats. Nuts!

Many, many, many, many years ago I was in Alaska and they had these thingys hanging from the front grill, to plug in their car so it doesnt freeze.

I would drive south until someone would say, "What is that thing!?", then I would know its warm enough to stay there.

I was in bed about 7pm last night and hubby slept with a beanie on. I told him, "We're not that poor! We can have heat!" but sadly, Im in the office today, where its a toasty 24c

It's a lot warmer now, into the positives (0.2C). MrLtL has just gone for a walk and I think daughter has probably gone for a bike ride. Funny but in the apartment it is 20 - 21C so no heater on at all, though I am wearing a jumper.:)
