I refuse to use self check out, even if I have to wait with one item. Self check out is closing check outs and we have to do the staff job without any discount to the user.

Did you read how the UK are going to introduce lunch time/after work surge pricing and how its going to hit our shores soon after? They're going to have to change their shelves to digital pricing first.
Is that surge pricing or gouge pricing?

Maybe because some of us have been reading about his connection to various situations where child abuse occurred. Oh and he created an org/fund to investigate and compensate victims of abuse (which is a polite word for rape for these children) but "Once victims went to police they were no longer eligible for compensation."

Im surprised by the charges against him but I always thought he was complicit in hiding the truth and protecting the church before the children & truth.

If I've read things correctly the summons is to appear in the Magistrates Court. This means there is a chance he won't end up before a jury. I don't feel he is guilty. If it does come to a trial with a jury in a higher court I hope there are ways of finding an impartial jury.

As I have read, he has been accused 3 at stages of his career of inappropriate behaviour. Catholics in the Victorian Police have been protecting Priests for a long time.

He helped sweep the truth under the carpet and he also conned survivors into accepting token payments. As a reward his was rewarded with a high position in the church.

Thankfully the statue of limitations haven't run out on these accusations or we might face the situation we do now with Bill Cosby, where Cosby won't face the majority of his accusers.

One of my car dealer contacts in QLD tells me they got 284 cars off their lot today, one was for us. Gotta love June 30th.

Went to buy a vacuum cleaner (VC)
Good to see the vacuum cleaner salesmen tactics still strong:

VC cleaner now has inbuilt dog and cat hair function
VC now has extra carpet agitation to release more dust
VC is now energy efficient and will save on electricity because of better green motor and LED light on the power head

Of course the VC which is double the price comes with extra 100W power but overall a power increase of 6%. Nevertheless that extra 6% is actually more because the VC has the next generations motor which means it is super efficient.

Dog and cat hair function - the power head bristles are formulated to pick up all types of hair but especially dog and cat hair. I said my old one is quite effective. But of course the new one is much better and he demo-ed it using sand.

Of course the salesman uses the same model at home - the cheaper one but he wishes he bought the double price one instead.

I bought the cheaper one with obligatory 5 bags of VC bags and Amex payment thrown in.

Re Pell getting a 'fair trial'. There are countless examples of high profile famous/infamous people still getting a fair hearing. Until then, in this country we are innocent until proved guilty. Best we remember that whether as a supporter or not.

I never use the self check out either !!

I choose not too as well - I think I could count on one hand the number of times I have been through them.I also refuse to go to Coles at Woden as it has done away with the staffed express line for 12 and under and directs you to the self service area (or you can line up with those with the yearly shop in their trolleys). I let them know I would not be back (as if they cared but I felt better). Manuka Coles still has the staffed checkout so if I need to I can visit that store.
The best thing I ever saw was many years ago when there were SSW supermarkets in Victoria and there were dedicated packers at each register. The woman in front of me had quite a lot of shopping and unpacked her trolley onto the counter. When the 'sour old madam' on the register started to check them through she asked where the packer was and was told quite rudely she would have to pack herself. She said, "Fine, I don't want them then" and walked out. Good on her. The look on checkout dragon's face was priceless.

I remember when I was in Scotland during March it was so warm I needed to buy more T-shirts - short sleeves were the order of the day! Even up north in Inverness on a different trip it was still light layers. You might be a bit overdressed if you are going during their warmer months :).

Having worked up there all winter, I generally found it warmer than London. That was Edinburgh, though.

There's kind-of 3 plusses for self-check for me:

1. Generally less waiting.
2. You can decide yourself how to pack things.
3. You can actually watch that each item prices correctly (it's not just a blur) - and have it fixed on the spot if it doesn't.

I try not to either, although I do occasionally at Coles because they often only have one checkout open and lots of empty self check outs.

I have a friend who's one of those people who takes his entire trolley through the self check out because he "doesn't like interacting with people"
