Did an online health check today thanks to work. Increased risk of heart disease, medium risk of diabetes type 2 - 1 in 50 chance in the next 5 years. Lucky I guess my waist measurement based on the size of me strides. I hate to see the real number.

I forgot today is Monday.
I'm on holiday so one day just blends into the next.
Is tomorrow Tuesday? IDC lol

It gets worse when you retire. Luckily phones, tablets etc have date and time emblazoned on their screens, but in the intervening period between waking self and then deciding to look at phone, who knows what day it is?

Could be worse. My dad is recommending that I go on Saxenda when it gets released in Australia. He's prepared to pay for five months of it. Frankly, I'm afraid of needles. And, looking at the side effects, I could hang myself before I lose any serious weight.

Don't forget to post regular updates for serfty ;)
Carolina scores a TD. Carolina 7 - Denver 10.
I'm going for Carolina so they have no chance.
Looks like Denver Superbowl Champions
Indeed, a couple of minutes to go and it seems all over.
I wouldn't be surprised if serfty will have an internet black out and not go online until he has watched the match. Will be tough for him not to be online, as he is usually online 24/7. ...
That's right Bundy - complete blackout of social media after 10am today - until I finished watching my recording about an hour ago. Coming home in the train I stood the whole way, looking out the window - staying away from any passengers talking to each other.

Anyway, the game was in doubt right up until the last few minutes; I was hoping the Broncos would win.

It's the end of another four months of up to 10 hours a week of watching games. I won no prizes- but did win an NFL fantasy comp this year and finished in 191st place of of 424,517 teams in the "Playoff Challenge".

After 10 or so years you get to know some AFFers pretty well,:)

You should have packed noise cancelling headset that way no chance of someone yelling it out.

I can handle missing the Friday knock-off time rush.

Golf Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and some Sundays. Yep I could just about get used to retirement. Could take a while though. Might have to try it first for 40-50 years to make sure retirement is suited to me. ;)

Don't rush your retirement trial. Take about 50 years. You could easily have a comfortable routine worked out by then!

Involved in a study in 2000 about weight loss - exercise vs intake. Covered Ironman triathletes at one extreme and as an enticement had some interesting statistics/facts.

  • If you regularly eat shortbread or chocolate biscuits (say a couple with morning tea/coffee each day) - then by cutting just one biscuit a day will see your weight fall by 4-5kg over the first year.
  • If you regularly eat many weetbix/vitabix for breakfast (say 4 or 5 or 6 etc) then cutting 1 out will see you drop 2-3kg in weight over a year.
  • Did you know that 10 inch or 25cm dinner plates only entered the non-US world in WW2 or shortly after? As the US servicemen were given that size and demanded it when they ate elsewhere around the world (and in the camps in Australia etc). Previously the Rest of World used 8 inch or 20cm plates
  • If you stop using the 25cm plates and replace them with 20cm plates your weight will fall 5-12% over the first year.

Of course being a non-trusting soul I contacted the Prof in charge of this study and asked for the evidence behind the "If you" and fun facts.

A parcel duly arrived a few weeks later with copies of all the literature. The swapping the size of plates works best if you do it after a holiday.

That is, remove (hide) all the large plates before you go away and have the new 20cm plates in their place. That way your subconscious reacts far more positively (higher success rate) than if you just go cold turkey one day to the next at home.

NEEDLES - watch me set a new land speed record....

Misconception by many that noise cancelling headphones/earmuffs etc stop you hearing someone talking.

That is not what they aim to do and even some of the most expensive ones will actually boost the relative volume of someone speaking.

I did two years at a fund mgmt start-up where the main owner's volume button started at 10 and only got higher. He also was a fan of open plan and calling out whenever he had a question (VERY OFTEN).

Trouble is I was sitting on the other side of the half height partition. Trials with MANY brands and industrial strength ones not normally seen (like for underground mining - I was desperate) - found that normal voice is not cancelled.

Some reps from the various companies around the world I rang heard the 'voice' during the phone calls - and sent me free boxes of various ear plugs, headphones, earmuffs etc in sympathy. My friends/neighbours never have to mow/chainsaw etc without hearing protection and probably won't for another 20 years.

Exploding take away coffee cup... Not having a good day :(

Want to swap? Swollen fingers and infected larynx/pharynx/tooth.

Looking forward to tomorrows installment. Love surprises....

I managed to miss my shirt, but did a good job of re-decorating the office chair and carpet...

I have a chest infection - so am trying to avoid flying. (Yes, I know - sacrilege on AFF).

Not going to quote your long post Ram but in a similar vein, some cruise lines have done away with trays in the buffet in order to reduce the gluttony or increase exercise with multiple trips. If you ever want to feel ill through some people's eating habits, visit the buffet.

When I was young (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth), I was always taught to "eat up" so I could grow up to be big and strong, and we were always told NEVER WASTE FOOD.

Decades later I have "very bad" habits now.

No wonder we have such an obese population. Force feeding children.

My sister and I once got served the same dinner three nights in a row, before her mum finally conceded defeat. It put me off schnitzel for a long time....

Oh insurance - a necessary evil isn't it? Got my car renewal in the post and noticed that it was being stored at the wrong address (My parent's address 2 suburbs away). Thought I'd do the right thing and get this corrected - a ~$70 increase in premium later left me wondering why I did the right thing in the first place.

Did an online quote today with Suncorp for the car I'm picking up this afternoon (3 weeks after my beloved wrote mine off). Adding him a regular driver, as I should, and having had an at-fault claim just last month makes the annual premium $300 higher. Ouch!!!

And barely one month after the insurance and rego was paid on my old car. :( They are not transferable, due to the total loss write off of the car.

I managed to get a good deal; sale at DJs, 10% off a DJs voucher and a $30 cash back offer. But it makes spag, linguine, rigatoni and lasagne. Can also make noodles and dumpling skins. I like knowing there is nothing hidden in my pasta, just flour, egg, oil, water and salt.

I have seen that on TVSN. It looks really good. They have the Phillips woman on demonstrating how to use it, she is really good ! She has some good cooking tips and it really looks easy. I liked the idea of the Phillips Air Fryer so I watched her demo that several times before I bought one !!

I just didn't each much as a child. If the plate had too much food then I would hide it in the serviette.

Ouch

Most states and territories will refund registration and compulsory insurance on a pro-rata basis. However you need to retain the plates yourself, and return them. NB - The insurance company or wrecker often does this themselves if you don't.

Insurance can usually be refunded on a pro-rata basis if you don't claim on it (e.g. a not at fault write-off, or a Third Party, Fire and Theft policy). There are some nuances between policies, so best to check the fine print.
