Obviously not busy enough with work, so I've applied to do a part time PhD. The standard of the student's Wine and Cheese nights is about to go up :)

That reminds of years ago when I was trying to work out what sort of training a lot of staff on the maintenance floor might like to do as a bit of a reward. I offered quite a few things without getting any enthusiasm until I said fire training. Then, they all brightened up and said that's the one they enjoy the most. I felt a bit sad for them and resolved to try to make life a little more stimulating at work if at all possible.

haha. Keeping in mind this is annual fire training. When I first started here it was about a 4 hour session with a practical evacuation drill including using a fire extinguisher on a simulated fire. Then later doing practical use of a fire blanket, CO2 extinguisher and a fire hose. Lots of fun, but also a big time commitment.

Can't complain about work here. We made the conscious decision about 10 years ago that we would not go down the $$$ only avenue. We both have jobs that "pays the bills, puts food on the table etc" without getting any stress ulcers.
(though owning rentals does come with it's own stresses at times, but that's going to be our retirement $ stream)
Looking forward to retirement though..... in a couple of years time.

Kids are back at school? Must remember to travel outside of school travel times.

NB - My "Plan B" in life is to quit my job and become a food & wine expert, but I haven't quite worked out how to do that in a profitable way yet.

What? You don't know how to become a food and wine expert? Just eat a lot and drink plenty of wine! To be profitable, try to encourage others (e.g. the federal government) to subsidise your eating and drinking. They do this for MPs - why not you?

hahaha, Well yes - this could be one avenue... Ask uncle Malcolm to start a Ministry of Viticulture Excellence and appoint me as department secretary.

I want work!

I also guess I could live out my dream too, but my interests are in areas which are saturated with such people. Making a living out of that is very high risk given my life right now.

The economy has not been kind on my profession right now; globally but especially at home. I have a fall back to switch careers into something a bit more solid. The downside is that it will be difficult to find some auxiliary source of income whilst I complete that training. And I have to live at home with a father who keeps reminding me of everyone my age or younger who has succeeded and how I've wasted about 12 years of my life.

I used to enjoy my work and I think I was good at it as well, however retirement is way better!

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:50 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Werribee and the area west of Werribee. They are forecast to affect Laverton, the area northwest of Werribee and the area south of Melton by 5:20 pm and Footscray, Melton and St Albans by 5:50 pm.

Damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.

Avalon Airport has recorded 72mm since 9am, including 53.8mm in the 30 minutes to 4:30pm.

Will this work? Some fine actors in it and I had to do a double take for some of the cast. Michael Gambon does look like the original Godfrey and Bill Nighy should be good as Wilson.

Dad's Army movie, complete with Hollywood heavies, hopes to excite fans of BBC series - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Mixed reviews so far. Consensus is cast good but not enough plot and comedy for a feature-length film. Sounds like one for the IFE rather than the cinema

Pointless now the lid is removed, but you can wrap a rubber band around the lid - gives more grip which is usually sufficient to overcome tightness.

Local beer bottlers have been sensible to keep twist-tops. Many, many years ago brave chaps used teeth to open beer bottles.
