Withdrew some money from Citibank Readycredit on weekend. Didn't realise but the withdrawal took me over limit. Noticed on account today there's a $40 overlimit fee.

Called them to get the fee reversed. ATM shouldn't be letting me withdraw more than available funds. Apparently it's a setting on the account I never knew about. Fixed now.

Oh and as a once off gesture they'll reverse the overlimit fee. ;)

Heavy storm has hit Geelong and Avalon Airport. Storm now heading for the CBD and MEL.

Rain was biblical in Geelong circa 330.

Reminded me of living in queensland.

IIRC China has to maintain 8-10% to keep growing.

Would you like to explain what that means?

+0.1% growth is still growth. 8%-10% is strong growth. 7% is still strong growth. The main problem is that nobody actually believes the official figures.

To keep pace with rural workers moving to urban areas, a figure of 8% was touted to create enough jobs for this migration of workers from rural to urban.

In fact, the original estimate for China's required minimum rate of growth, which was made in the mid-1990s, was 7%, not 8%. And the correct figure is now probably lower, because the original estimate was based not only on the flood of people out of the countryside, but also on the number of new jobs that were needed to absorb massive lay-offs by state firms. In addition, the number of young people joining the labour force each year has fallen with the birth rate, and a spurt in rural incomes in recent years has encouraged some to stay on the farm rather than move to the city.
But even if the 8% rule is no longer based on sound economics, it clearly still carries a lot of weight with government officials. Over the past two months the government has announced a series of measures aimed at sustaining domestic demand. The People's Bank of China has cut interest rates three times and strict controls on bank lending have been scrapped. Measures to encourage home-buying have also been introduced: the minimum deposit on a mortgage has been cut from 30% to 20%, mortgage rates have been lowered and transaction taxes on homes reduced. A far more important boost, however, will come from the planned surge in infrastructure spending.

FWIW - agree and disagree and fence sitting
Gross. Originally Pommery (which was disgusting), Toured Pommery Champ house last year - I quite like Pommery current is not bad (Heidsieck & Co. Monopole Blue Top NV), The term vinegar was created for this if the new is going to be Castelnau (they use this in the lounge and it's horrible!) then that's bad. Never tried it

hahaha, Well yes - this could be one avenue... Ask uncle Malcolm to start a Ministry of Viticulture Excellence and appoint me as department secretary.

We have quite a lot of ministries that are far less use to our nation than a ministry of viticulture excellence. Someone like you with a desire to contribute to the welfare of our nation would make an ideal dept. secretary. I can visualise the interview now:

"Tell the committee, Mr Penegal, what skills and attributes would you bring if appointed to this position?"

Will this work? Some fine actors in it and I had to do a double take for some of the cast. Michael Gambon does look like the original Godfrey and Bill Nighy should be good as Wilson.

Dad's Army movie, complete with Hollywood heavies, hopes to excite fans of BBC series - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Mixed reviews so far. Consensus is cast good but not enough plot and comedy for a feature-length film. Sounds like one for the IFE rather than the cinema

I was looking forward to this movie. Of course the original series had enough comedy and plot for 30 minute episodes. Might be difficult to stretch that to movie length. Or the writers aren't that good. Or times have changed.

So I have wandered around to penepest's place and no activity - no sign of him - no sign of a key under the mat - any clues as to where he might be?

Oh wait - you can stop looking - I found him!

Probably your best post on AFF ever.

The Tennis was sensational.

It was great to see Gael Monfils live for the first time. The match lacked a bit of passion, but still some excellent tennis. The Women's doubles was a bloodbath, over in 50-something minutes. Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza are clearly the best in the competition.

This is true. There are circa ~200 federal ministries at last count. Most of them have no profile.

That's before you even get to QANGOs.
