Great suggestions. I am fresh out of butter knives, but the pointy end of a sharp knife broke the seal. blackcat wins the most useful, OATEK, the funniest.

I make a lot of my own jam, tomato sauce etc, and have a habit of doing the lids up tight; its a nifty trick to get them off.

Now I have a serious problem and need urgent input. I make my own yoghurt and this morning I have been trying for 45 mins to get the top off the container. I've tried cold water, banging it gently against the window sill, and standing it upside down in boiling water. I don't remember super gluing the top down. I'm really hungry too. Any other suggestions.

EDIT, as you were blackcat won.

Buy one of these for next time..

peabody told me this "overheard" in a restaurant a few weeks ago. American to his wife:

"I've never realised so much Champagne was made in Nevada?"

(The abbreviation for Nevada is NV.)
Hello P and friends,
Just landed in LAX on an AA 787.
Even cabin crew did not know how to raise the window shades!!

AND NV was served on board.
BTW had 7L, it is a mini cabin, row 6 and 7 before coach.
I prefer to face forward, so this was the last forward facing window avail when I chose this flight 1 week out.
i just don't understand why there are so many posts about the sophistication of our fellow travellers in the LOFTAP.

Happy travels! John.

Pointless now the lid is removed, but you can wrap a rubber band around the lid - gives more grip which is usually sufficient to overcome tightness.

a few gentle taps with a knife around the edge of a lid is usually enough to open it.

I think the US is one of the few, if not the only, place with a "get out" on the normal PDO. Though if you had a new "Champagne" producer in the USA, they could no longer use the same "get out".

Most of the Champagne sold as such in the USA is usually distinguished as, for example, "California Champagne".

Unless you are referring to something more sinister, i.e. Champagne from a respected French house that really is actually produced from non-Champagne grapes but touted as such.

Sparkling wines from USA registered as champagne pre-2006 may continue to be marketed as champagne.

Don't you hate it when you ring one major company and they give bogus information to customers.

Yes, we can do that for you, and you check online a day later and nothing has happened so you ring again and they say no it has to be done this way; usually the more difficult way.

I am over anything to do with work at the moment.

I actually enjoy my work, I just wish it paid more!!!

Sure, the office politics can be tiresome, but that's no different to family, friendship groups, or internet forums really :p

NB - My "Plan B" in life is to quit my job and become a food & wine expert, but I haven't quite worked out how to do that in a profitable way yet.

I like work a bit as well. Seen the most interesting use of Moore's Law today. I thought it applied to semi-conductor sizes/power/ whatever only. Apparently Moore's Law is about any activity that improves with time. Also found out about an Eroom's Law.

Plus I got to do Fire Training today. Yay! But not asked to put out a fire this time. :(

Me too. One of my biggest regrets in life is not retiring at 40.
I wish I had so as to have my post retirement work + travel lifestyle for an extra 20 years.
That being said I enjoy work now more than at any other time in my life.

That reminds of years ago when I was trying to work out what sort of training a lot of staff on the maintenance floor might like to do as a bit of a reward. I offered quite a few things without getting any enthusiasm until I said fire training. Then, they all brightened up and said that's the one they enjoy the most. I felt a bit sad for them and resolved to try to make life a little more stimulating at work if at all possible.

+1.

I'm always happy to jump into the car to go to my day activity (can't call it work, that's a pejorative term IMHO). I love the interaction with my clients and patients (well mostly... except when they bite  ) and I am fortunate to have a harmonious and cohesive activity environment.
