Correct however DRW-BNE-ADL earns more then DRW-MEL-ADL so I will be going via BNE anyways. Plus ~4 hours on Alliance is not for me so I will not be going direct. What I’m asking is if can I ask for a different routing (DRW-BNE-SYD-ADL) then what’s offered on the rebooking portal but is available for sale for more SC.

In my experience, the answer to this is probably yes you can, but you will have to call QF and ask for what you want by specific flight numbers. I have done similar things eg flying CBR-MEL via SYD instead of direct when it suited me but not for a while. A couple of cautions:

• mention frequently that this is being changed because of a QF initiated flight cancellation - stress that the change is involuntary on your part. You will need to use the word involuntary as many times as you can.
• Tell them that the QF proposed new flight as a result of the involuntary cancellation of your original flight does not suit you but the preferred flights you have (with accurate flight numbers) will work for you and you want to be changed to these flights at no cost to you as the changes are involuntary.
• check that they are keeping it all on the original PNR (which is how you keep the DSC) and stress how important this is to you.
• I've never done this myself, but others suggest asking for a copy of the recording of the conversation so you have proof of what you asked for in case there are any stuff ups.
• If you get any kind of bad feeling at all that the agent does not understand what you are asking, HUACA.

Baggage question - flying J to CDG via SIN, QR booking changing to AF for final leg. Can I take both a carry on size case and another overnight size bag or do I need to check one?

Not sure whether my question really fits this thread, but wondering whether anyone has had luck with requesting Qantas to do something nice for friends or family when something has gone really wrong in their travels? If so, how did you go about doing that?

To be clear, I'm not referring to service recovery in the event of IRROPS or a failure on the airline's part, but rather a pure good will gesture to help turn around an emotionally traumatic travel experience into a more positively memorable one.

Hello,

I have been travelling domestically with Qantas for many years, but I have never checked in my luggage.

Next week I have a family trip, so I need some checked luggage (ADL->MEL->ADL). But I noticed that Qantas has a restriction on Domestic flights: the combined dimensions of the luggage must be 140cm. The luggage that I have is around 155cm.

Provided I stick to the 23kg weight limit, can I use my existing luggage? I really hate to buy 3,4 new luggage just for one domestic trip, where these days even saving one dollar means a lot.

I called Qantas to inquire about this. After waiting 30 mins, an agent answered and said they dont know whether it will be allowed or not, and told me to call my airport. So I sent the inquiry to Adelaide Airport. Funnily, the airport said to get this answered from Qantas. Since I was getting nowhere, I thought of getting input from experienced travellers.

Any input on this would be really helpful. Thank you

Update on this: I had two separate domestic trips to MEL and SYD since I posted the question on Qantas, and I traveled with a large bag that exceeded 140cm. Had no issues with automated check-in. Thanks

Is it possible to add a new flight as a separate ticket onto the same PNR if booked through Qantas?

I ask as I currently have a CR booking to Europe in whY but have noticed a flight out of MNL in J on AF. If booked originating in MNL, no carrier charges are payable (just ~$22 in taxes) but they are if I book originating in MEL (and total about $800 just for that sector! Ugh!).

While I could book onto a separate PNR, it would mean baggage probably would not be through-checked from QF (given it'd be to a non-OW carrier) and the connection itself would not be protected, so I'd like to avoid that if possible.

You may be able to avoid the carrier charges by having a stopover (>24 hours) in MNL, but in that case the luggage situation is moot.

I doubt Qantas would do it as a separate ticket.
