The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

That's a fair. I guess this is more akin to if QF149 is cancelled then it makes QF152 obsolete. from a pax perspective. I just wondered if QF would have any leeway on that specific matter. I was previously burned by QF149 when connecting to CX AKL-HKG due to a cancellation.

Having had a look at QF149, there hasn't been any cancellations over the past 4 months but you never know how weather might turn out. Would QF157 be safer due to the lack of a curfew?
The QF139 (ex SYD) tonight had a three and a bit hour delay. Now due at 340am into AKL!

Cancellation of the 149 would potentially come under 7.3 (ii), allowing a full refund. But you still gotta somehow get to your 152?

I would hope that QF might put me on the next day to AKL and push 152 back by a day. Am I dreaming? 😂

Edit: Ideally if there is some bad weather, I would like to see whether I could be rerouted via BNE or MEL to avoid it if possible.

Maybe not a newbie question but don't want to create a new thread:

How quickly do status downgrades and upgrades take effect? I am a few credits short of Platinum renewal at end of October, the earning SC on the ground promotion will requalify me but I doubt it will happen until after the month end. I do have some flights in early November that I would quite like to have my status for.

Will I get instantly demoted on 1 November or is there a delay? And I imagine it's anyone's guess how long the other SCs will take to get me re-promoted

Any flight taken after or on 1st of November will count to your new membership year. If you havent requal by then, you will drop gold. You may see that you remain WP for a few days, or maybe a week, and then you will drop anyway.
Having say that, in the faq of the ground offer, the SC will be back dated to the day you were awarded the last points to make it to 1k, in a given category. Say you get the 1k points for banking on 31 of october, the sc will be backndated to 31 of october, even if they only land sometime in November. I can imagine scenarios where someone drops, and later get requaled, potentially after a call. How many SC do you need?

WRT the drop speed… I was temporarily moved to SG within a few hours of midnight, on Sep 1st, until my last flights’ DSC hit later that night and I was put back up to WP. They’re pretty ruthless 😀

I need 30SC, I moved a flight into the next year once the status on ground promotion came out.

Yes my reading of the FAQ was the same as yours, it backdates to when the points were earned, so I might just have to put up with a week or 2 of gold status.

The well-being / entertainment section has proven to post quickly. Only a few days between hitting the 1000 points and the 10 SC. If you subscribe to binge (via the dedicated Qantas binge week, $19 for a month), it will take about a week or so to get the 1k, and a few days for the 10SC. Not sure other's section has triggered SC post yet, no luck in banking (despite hiting 1k on the first day of the month), and no luck in the shopping section, despite hitting the 1k 3 or 4 days ago. one would hope Qantas process those SC before 1st of November, to avoid those situations with members not requalifying on time... Good luck!

Just do a flex Y fare somewhere, mid Aus dom distance, and then JQd it back to home city, either in the lowest fare class that does not earn QFF points and SC.
Green leaf and PC? But yeah, that could already be in your calc.
