Thinking about this - why I would i bother with using an eVIP for this - I will be EXP and can thus get complimentary upgrades surely?

I think you only get complimentary upgrades for domestic flights. Unless you're talking about op ups? ;)

I was referring to the LAX-JFK flight - probably didnt make that as clear I should have  - jutst checked out the JFK-DFW-LGW rather than JFk-BGI-LGW and the flight times work.

There are also some interesting possibilities - bt then I end up on BA flight - which defeat s the purpose... need to keep focussed on the objective not just the points ;)

The Explat upgrades are good - but remember to get 2 class flight not 3.
Also worth having the eVips just to make "friends" happy.

Once you get to Explat also the AA ExPlat desk are pretty good at what they do. For chasing down award flights they are not bad, but it helps to be able to offer them alternatives they may not have thought of.

I have yet to get the benefits of the comp upgrades....wouldn't QF be a great airline if just on departure they upped a few Emeralds.. .

I wil now go down to my garden and discuss world peace with the fairys and the elves.

The complimentary upgrades only allow upgrade from economy class. You cannot use them to upgrade from business to 1st

Cheers - I dont have any yet - but they're coming ;)

Hmm - wondering whether an eVIP will be used to upgrade my overnight LAX-JFK on the mileage run during BEHEMOTH... I think so :)

Yep if A is available. :)
eVIPs are 1 category upgrades from any class and up to a max of 3 segments with no stopovers in between.

The complimentary upgrades work like 500 mile upgrades and only work if you're stuck in WHY.

ugh, overnight, yuch yuch. If you are not using the eVIP on a transatlantic flight as the next sector after LAX-JFK, you might want to consider using 15k miles to upgrade the LAX-JFK; that way you can confirm it now rather than having to wait for eVIPs to arrive

Dave

Currently protecting miles for the tip next year - I dont sleep well generally so I dont mind an overnighter

Hmm - I hadnt even realised that I had booked an actual AA metal flight NRT-DFW on 21/9 - I will certainly be burning an eVIP on that one :)

Looks like I might actually get through my eVIPs this year ;) I have 4 eligible flights on AA metal that will need to be upgraded - factor in the potential DFW-LGW flight and that's five - and I didnt think I would use any of the eVIPs...

you may not need to use 1 per sector; 1evip can upgrade up to 3 sectors one way

Dave

Sadly all the AA flights have a stopover. Except for the NRT-DFW-LAX-JFK - so I guess I could use one eVIP to cover the three segments rather than two - even though one flight cant be upgraded?

Doesn't matter that there are stopovers or that they are not contiguous; they are not an issue with the use of an eVIP; determining whether the sectors count as one-way if non contiguous becomes a bit more fun and you'll need to speak to the EXP desk. LAX-JFK, JFK-LHR is perfectly valid for 1eVIP for example even if you have a stopover in JFK

That's news to me. Makes an eVIP more fun than the UA SWUs! :D

OK - I am off to the airport today to get my ticket reissued - it's paper and ticketed by CX.

I have checked on line and the flights have changed so that's is all good. I did have a realisation this morning on the train in - I have 8 hours in HKG on Saturday - 15:00 to 23:00 - seems a bit long to me especially given a 07:45 flight out! What I am thinking is to switch to the QF flight - 10:45 - 17:45. that flight is currently showing:

F9 A8 J9 C9 D9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 R9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9

So no problems there - I might also even put in for an upgrade to F - F doesnt seem very full at all.

Given that I havent actually called out TA to make that change I am guessing I can do it all at the CX office? There shouldnt be any problem with that surely?

I thought about the 2:25 flight but that get's in at 21:55 and I dont think that would make the minimum connection time at HKG?

I think you will need to call the TA to make the change. Generally, before the first flight has been taken only the issuing TA can make changes to the itinerary. In most cases, the airline will tell you that you must call the TA to make the change, even though you are speaking with the issuing airline and you still need them to actually do the re-issue or validation.

Damn - I wanted to go out to the Airport today to get the tickets reissued - easier to do it from the city rather than from home later in the week (I have three days off before my trip) and not convinced that the TA will make the change in time for me to be able to go to the airport tomorrow ...

Hmm - should I take a punt on the TA? They are in the US so I can't just call them.

I guess I can email and assume they will do it - if they dont I guess I can at least go to the airport tomorrow for the changes whether they have made them or not.

Now if the upgrade comes through (I would be relatively confident of that given F9) how do I get QF to know that I will be at the airport and want to maximise by experience :D

If its a corporate TA, then they usually will have an after-hours number that is manned 24x7. That is certainly the case with our corp TA.

When you notice the upgrade has come through (look for it 24-18 hours before departure), call QF reservations number to allocate a seat and ask them about options for F check-in and FLounge. At that time they know you are coming.

Thanks - I will just email the TA. We get charged for out of hours calls and as this is not a necessary business related change I am loathe to incur a fee if I dont need to. It shouldnt be too much of a trauma - I hope :)

I will call QF once the UG is through - and book my spa treatment ;)

No response from the TA so I called them this morning - all sorted. Heading out to the airport just after lunch. Going to lodge my upgrade request shortly :)

Just deciding on whether to go taxi or train to the airport from the city. I can't believe the train price - $17:50 for a return from Wynyard - its only a 30 minute ride - it's $8.50 peak return from home which is an hour's ride away...
