Just deciding on whether to go taxi or train to the airport from the city. I can't believe the train price - $17:50 for a return from Wynyard - its only a 30 minute ride - it's $8.50 peak return from home which is an hour's ride away...
Thanks to Macquarie Railways for that one  . When anything involves air travel, its seen as a luxury and charged accordingly.

Just wait until the 30 min train fare costs more than the 75 min flight!

I think I will let the train take the strain - if it's a direct service then I can get 30 mins work on the laptop done.

Just need to get it ticketed so that I can put in my UG request :D

Isn't the ticket already issued? You should not need to wait for a re-issue to waitlist the upgrade.

Not sure of the circumstances. The original CX issued ticket with CX flights is a paper ticket that was issued ages ago. I phoned for the changes this morning and they appear on the QF website - but it says "Check with travel adviser" against the upgrade option - maybe it is taking time to filter through...

EDIT

Oh - paper tickets not upgradeable online d'oh

Flight Upgrades - Contact Travel Advisor
Only paid and confirmed e-ticket bookings can be upgraded online.

If you have a paper ticket, contact your local Qantas office to request an upgrade.

Otherwise, your booking may:

not been paid for
be open dated (no travel dates)
not yet be confirmed
require updating due to changes that have occurred (for example, flight schedules)
To enable online upgrade requests, contact your travel agent or local Qantas office.

EDIT 2

Request made over the phone :D "Still showing seats for sale so that is a good sign" :D

That is exactly the process for paper tickets as I found last month.

Still showing F9/A8 so I am pretty hopeful :D

Mind you J looks pretty full on the seat map - no seats on the Upper Deck and 10 empty seats on the lower deck - not great seats either...

Only 2 seats allocated in F...

Going to call and confirm a seat in J at least - don't want to be stuck in the middle if UG doesnt come through...

EDIT

I could have had a window seat in the UD but went for 25K - the seat next to me isnt allocated yet so you never know - it might be free ;)

EDIT the Third

Well I am back from the airport - finding the CX office was tough enough - but the ticket change was a pathetic waste of time - three little stickers put over the flight numbers - I think perhaps they could have done that at the service desk on arrival...

I did try to look for the kerbside check in for F (hoping my UG comes through) - I assume it is only there when QF have an F flight impending...

I have not seen the SYD set-up for this, but in MEL it is not quite curb-side as you see in the USA. Its a separate room that is directly accessible from the road-side, but is actually inside the main building.

I now you are all on the edge of your seats waiting to see if the UG came through ;) Just checking and it is now F5/A4 - interesting it is still showing J9 even though there are only four seats showing available on the seat map. Another interesting observation is that the allocated seats have moved a little. Initially no-one was next to me in 25J, but checking yesterday the seat was allocated - now though it isn't - so hopefully either I get upped or the seat is empty :)

The suspense is killing me....;)

Hopefully it will come through for you Simon :)

At this rate you will be looking for F awards, not J!!!

I reckon your chances of an SG upgrade are quite reasonable (if you were a WP, I would say excellent).

The flight is showing: F4 A4 J5 C5 D5 Y9 B0 H0 K0 M0 R0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 on E/F.

Seat maps have gone into that weird 'pre-flight' mode, but 11 F & 4 J seats are seemingly unallocated.

I think Qantas are planning to grant at least ½ a dozen J->F point upgrades with corresponding WHY->J to follow.

If I had put all my points to AA last year (as I half planned to do when I stared reading this forum but chickened out - I would have enough points for F awards by the time that I have to book next year's trip with mrssimongr - that would make a lot of the travel worth while . J wont be too bad though ;)

Nothing deducted as yet - currently at F4/A4 with no J seat maps available...

WTF? Someone just took 25,000 points out of my account!!!!!

:D :D

So I call QF now or will they call me about check in times?

Thank goodness, now we can all sleep easy tonight :D

If QF ring tell them that you want the full royal treatment. :D

OK - seat 2K selected. 4A and K were gone.

Just wondering what the number is to call to book the spa treatment :)

Nothing on the website advertises it at all :(

What about calling the Qantas Club number - perhaps they can put you through to First Lounge?

Congrats Simongr, I can now to go to sleep in my alchol dazed state and not what worry about poor Simongr sitting in J. Oh dear....... :D :D :p

Enjoy the behemoth.

Yumm - QF F class was the best F ever - service makes a difference.

The Longe was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

Apologies if the trip report is a bit gushiong about the lounge ;)

OK - quick question - if I need to change dates of flights after the commencement of the trip is there a fee for that? It's not a reissue of the ticket or a rerouting. Given that it was CX issued - do I need to get CX to make the change (I am at LHR this weekend so could easily go and get them to change it if necessary).

The only downside to making a change would be that I might not be leaving myself enough time for points to post so that I can get F lounge access at LGW... Mind you it might make it easier to ensure that I have AA points posting so I can call for eVIPs asap (still showing A2 on my JFK-NRT flight).
