The Holy Grail - 100% Share Promo Coming???

What would accounts actually be audited for? I may have shared miles with a newly found 'friend' who became a friend say 2 days ago. All this counts for nought though if they just cancelling the account without warning.
Unfortunately noone knows eactly what people get audited, because US Air won't tell you, in Mel_Travellers defense it is certainly true that in some cases accounts are locked while this occurs and in some cases accounts are actually closed.

The afore mentioned Shanye was one such, I must suggest most here would agree that based on previous form he probably did stretch the limit, i.e. not a share back and forward between a few accounts but a whole heap of accounts, some of which may have been false or duplicates. There is also a suggestion he bought a ticket for a "friend" for which the friend paid and he was caught out. Of course noone really knows about that either, getting the truth out of him was as hard as it is to get anything out of US Air.

Generally it apperas to be people who abuse the program on a commercial basis, you would think that these are doing so with more than just a few accounts, possibly tens or even hundreds. I think this is one of the reasons they reduced the promo periods in recent times.

An 'audit' is usually commenced by freezing the account in question and making it inaccessible to the holder.
I must admit this was one of the things of concern to me the other day when it appeared one of our family accounts was locked. Fortunately next day logon worked fine, doesnt mean they werent looking at the account though and decided all was OK!

Share as much as you want to whoever you want to however I would suggest that the person sharing the points uses a credit card in their name. Full stop. As long as the sharing points come from accounts with matching credit cards, I doubt US would really perceive that as fraudulent, abuse etc. What their computers would be looking at, is same credit card numbers being used for multiple sharing transactions from multiple accounts - that on face value, appears a bit dodgy.

Yes, sort of agree with this, a bit hard when you have kids who can't get CC's. I've had no issues when the from account was neither the CC holder nor the too account but last time one transaction was where both accounts differed from CC Card holder and this was the one in limbo for about 50 hours so suspect it was manually reviewed.

Hmmm I'm trying to figure out the best way to maximum use...

my account has 60K points , moms account has 2k... I'm keen to transfer to her to maximise bonus then transfer back to me and again maximise bonus... Happy to spend what I need too... Any tips from the very wise of AFF ??

cheers
VH-OEG
Just transfer 50K each way, that way the OEG account ends up with 110K and mom's 52k.

Hi,

It seems people don't realise that businesses can't actually tell whether you have correctly entered the name appearing on a credit card. You can choose to be honest or put in a different name.

Also I would be fairly confident that if you paid for a share miles transaction and USDM refused to credit the miles then your bank would perform a chargeback and refund the money as you never received what you paid for.

My wife and I sadly have accounts with 0 balances so can't share with each other.

Dale.

What has happened in the past is that the share transaction has gone through and SUBSEQUENTLY the account(s) were closed due to perceived fraudulent activity - note before the shooting the messenger starts, that I'm not saying the sharing is the source of the audit necessarily. But past transactions might come into play. There is evidence that despite the general ineptitude of their IT they can track IP addresses against sessions etc. and if you are a bad customer they might choose to use it against you.

Agree but to put the other side its not that unusal for people in a household to share a PC, we certainly do in our house even though between us we have multiple laptops/Ipads. For some things a PC is still easier!

Agree with your main statement, its easy to chargeback if their is a clear link between payement and non-receipt of miles. But some of these cases are way more complicated than that and closure happens some time after the transfer.

If you're keen enough you could always buy 50K at full price ($1881), then share that to your wife ($567). She now has 100K. She shares back to you 50K ($567). After all that, you have 100K, she has 50K at a cost of $1881 + $567 + $567 ..... total is USD$3,015 for a total of 150,000 points. Not great outcome but in terms of CPM its slightly more than past buy/gift promotions. Extend that a bit more and share the remaining 50K from her account to your account for no extra bonus, and its $3,582 for 150K solely in your account which is enough to go to LON and back in QF F. Oh, you would have to leave the wife at home though ;) hehehe

Just thought I would post on what I have experienced in the process of sharing points between family members. Transfers to accounts that have been used previously have transferred instantly. However transfers to and from accounts that were set up 3 months ago but until now have not been used have encountered a 24 hour delay. One of these newer accounts has a different surname and still took 24 hours. (Sample size 4 accounts so far, with 2 pending).

We did 4 100% shares entirely within our family and they all went through instantly. However, the accounts are several years old with numerous transactions on them and we have all flown using points on several occasions so USAir wouldn't have any concern that fake names are being used.

Another way:

Buy 30K for one account, A/C1: 30K, A/C2: 0 US$1130

Share that with the other, A/C1: 0, A/C2: 60K: US$353

Share 50K back: A/C1: 100K, A/C2: 10K: US$568

Finally, Share 27K back: A/C1:73K A/C2: 57K: US$320

Total of 130K for US$2471

It could probably be optimised a little more. You need to share at least 30K in one transaction to get the full 100% bonus. No point in sharing 30K back at the last as max remaining of the 50K bonus to be received is 20K since 30K received in the first share.

$30 processing fee (not taxes). It's always been there.

There is a $30 usd transaction fee. (I assume this is points.com's commission). You will see this mentioned at the bottom of the share miles bonus page.
