Thank you for your loyalty

P1 this year?
I got to Platinum in the first 3 months, but that was more to good fortune and timing of things I could control to benefit. (I had deliberately dropped to gold so that this year could be planned a little more.) It did cross my mind, but circumstances conspired otherwise.

...and comes 3 days before the start of my new year when I could have actually used it. ...its 150 SCs that dissapear in 3 days and don't count to anything. Thanks for nothing Qantas
Huh? How does your member year start in 3 days? I was under the impression everyone's member years end on the last day of the relevant month and commence on the first day of the relevant month.

You're right, my membership year ends Sep 30, but my email said they would be in my account by the latest Sep 30 - so I sort of assumed it would be late Sep hence the "3 day" guess. I guess it will be in the range of 27-1 days to early for me!

Opened my Qantas acount this morning to a pop up that congratulated me for retaining Gold...... In fact i reached this level months ago - Qantas are trying to gaslight me that the worthless 80 SC "loyalty" gift actually acheived something.
I'll say it again - a SC gift for those that are close to end of membership year and have already acheived status for next year, IS OF NO VALUE WHATSOEVER....
I showed MY loyalty Qantas - and you Qantas, have shown the exact opposite.....

Good Lord. That’s nothing new. Showing loyalty to an airline especially with Qantas is a waste of time & effort and especially a waste of money.

reading here how they have ballsed up the ‘loyalty gift’ thing only underlines that.

QF’s gift of 150 SC that don’t count to LTSC shows they don’t care about my loyalty when a cursory look at my activity and bookings would show it would be of no use to me

I intend to continue to progress towards LTG and then as the LTP target is ridiculous I’ll likely start flying other airlines more internationally at least.

QF playing with changing the goalposts would make going for LTP very risky even if the LTSC required for it was not ridiculous.

I've booked a few DSC for next year's retention. The loyalty bonus has basically just let me stop forward booking the rest of my flights for the status year during this DSC. I might go book VA flights if they drop triple SC

I'm at ~1000 now with 6month to go and no plans for P1. Have 130 SC booked still to fly in my OWA. Funnily I've still yet to hit my 500 loyalty bonus this year.

This just in..... Qantas have finally relented regarding the worthless SC "loyalty" gift for those that have already achieved their current status renewal for next membership year....

For those whose membership ends last day of Sept, Oct or November - you can write to QFF after your year end to have your SC gift credited to your new member year. You must have achieved your current status (renewal) before the gift on 28 August. This restores some "value" in the otherwise worthless gift. .

It remains inconceivable to me, that a company such as Qantas could make such a glaringly obvious error AGAIN, and actively insult a significant number of their long suffering member customers with another schoolboy mistake. Along with having to reinstate lifetime credit to the bonus SC's received in thE recent double SC promo, there is obviously a massive competency vacuum in their QFF leadership.

The new Chairman must go, but only after the head of Loyalty and the CEO are sacked......

I agree; but who says it was an error? I'm pretty sure they knew exactly what they were doing - "wow, here's a gift!!!" - knowing the cost/effect will be low as it is useless to many. Utterly cynical and two-faced.

Acknowledging this will come across as a whinge but as someone who won't hit their retain target for WP - this still makes it a completely useless gift for me as I can't use it for earn or retain next year.

If they were genuine about this they would have either
  1. Given people a choice as to when it would credit, as per loyalty bonuses and green tier, or
  2. Automatically re applied them to the next year for members for whom it wasn't used in earning or retaining in the previous year (admittedly harder to do), or
  3. Automatically applied it as a head start on your next year from the start.
Appreciate that people will lose due to timing no matter the circumstances, but as someone who loses in this case (having lost on timing in the COVID extensions too) it is another extension of the "ungift".

In the interest of consistency and fairness, how about resetting to a standard QFF Membership Year for everyone - 1 July to 30 June.

With the QF scheme as it is that would be a negative to most members, as it would result in many members doing their 11th hour status runs at the same time and the airline knowing this (and pricing accordingly)

Do you have a source for this? Something official that can be referenced when making such a request?

For the record, needing to write to request this is just nonsense.

What a shambles.
