Thanks for that oz_mark I will try to keep late May,2013 clear of engagements.

Straitman let me tell you Fredd gave us real help for Vancouver. Please let me know if he is coming down to Oz as I feel in his debt for making our friends anniversary so memorable. We don't use FT much because the site is quite overwhelming.

Is there an event in Perth next May?

Thanks for that oz_mark I will try to keep late May,2013 clear of engagements.
They were here a couple of weeks ago for Oz Fest #9 but will be back next May as per oz_mark's post.

A good example of how AFF/FT works was today when a friend who is not a frequent flyer got into trouble. She got as far as SFO enroute to Canada. (Not sure where) when United airlines delayed then cancelled her ongoing flight. The basically said get lost and come back in 27 or so hours and we'll take you tomorrow night.

I was no where near a computer so rang serfty who contacted so UA elite friends (Fredd) who gave us the best advice available. Friend was still in trouble as there was no accommodation available but at least knew where she stood and also knows how to follow up to get the trip back on the rails.

Not to forget that it helps out frequent flyers too, when criminals decide to try and ruin their travels

With the 2012 financial year ending in 2 weeks I thought we should reflect and give thanks to our moderators and AFF site staff and owners.
This year has been a most interesting one with the EDR threads, the US Dividend Miles threads, ATO threads and lots of excited AFF members getting the trips of their dreams.
Thanks AFF!
I couldn't be more grateful to the Moderators, Staff and all the Members on AFF. So much information (so little time to read it all). A very generous site, thank you one and all.

Happy tax time!

Off topic but can anyone elaborate on what happens at one of these?

Essentially, eating, drinking, and excursions (sometimes combined). A typical weekend might involve welcome drinks on Friday followed by dinner, an activity or two on Saturday followed by dinner, ditto for Sunday. You can be involved in as much or as little as you like, though you may have to make this decision beforehand to allow for known numbers for restaurants etc. Check out post #7 in the thread that oz-mark linked to - this has links to the thread for each past ozfest, where details of the activities for the weekend can be found among the early posts.

Oh, and to stay mildly on-topic, my thanks to the mods and admin (don't you all go getting big heads now :p) for the excellent efforts put into keeping us reprobates in line.

Oh, and just to add, AFF has similar gatherings each year, which are without exception excellent affairs.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

They are great events to meet fellow frequent flyers from around the world. Go to lots of events if you want and sit around talking with people who are genuinely interested when you talk about booking an FASA, JASA and so on.

You listen to people talking about their FF programs and realise that QF isn't actually too bad.

Think of it as living the forum for a weekend.

I've been to four FT events this year, SIN DO, two in Chicago and OzFest in CBR. I've been to one AFF event so far with at least two more to follow.

It is great fun meeting people who share the same interest in flying and maximising the value of points etc and having some great conversations.

To the people at AFF, admin, the moderators and my fellow members thanks for enhancing my flying hobby.

It's always nice to get thanks - even if I somehow missed this thread last year. There are times (and members) that are sometimes challenging however they are by far overshadowed by the majority who share their knowledge and assist others in their time of need.

I certainly have much to thank my fellow Mods whom I rely on for travel & FF advice and other members for helping out this technologically challenged Mod.

I look forward to seeing you again in July, cove, if you're in PER when I arrange my trip. You sure as hell better clear your diary for May 2013.

I also look forward to meeting others (particularly my wish list). Hopefully meet one of them on Monday next week!

A little late myself to chip-in but thankyou to our mods and all the fantastic contributors to this site. It's been an interesting year beginning with the good : The re-vamp of Velocity and VA/DJ and the status matching. The launch of WP1 and the amazing lunch for the AFF winners at Rockpool. The improved international upgrade processing ( still needs some work admittedly but its a start). The ongoing points harvest from Woolies/EDR/ Wayne Swan/ Velocity Money CC promos. The bad: QF industrial relations woes culminating in the lock-out. The ongoing uncertainty surrounding QFi. The great QP lock-out in LHR. The DJ 737 J fiasco and catering issues ( which do seem to be improving).
I'll stop rambling for now
Cheers
PF :)

I would also like to add my thanks to the AFF team and the members for their contributions.

It's never too late to learn and I have been able to enrich my travels through the sharing of knowledge and experience on this forum.

Tax time....sorry I don't do tax any more

Jeez first time I have seen this thread.

I certainly want to say THANKS to all involved - AFF staff, Mods - but most importantly ALL you posters out their in contribution land - you guys make this site what it is - and IMHO logging into AFF first thing each day is the highlight of my day (Pls do not tell Cruiserette I said that).

The value I have gained from this site is beyond comprehension - but I also LOVE the whole atmosphere that permeates throughout the site - intelligent grown up mature adults genuinely attempting to help each other to enrich ALL our experiences in the wonderful world of travel - god I love it.

Again thank you to AFF staff and Mods for making this possible.

I would like to thank the contributors who make AFF great, no one person can be across the whole frequent flyer world so a variety of input and specialities is a must to maximise the game returns.

I would also like to thank the attempted spammers for giving us mods something to do, for the most part our regular members are exceedingly well behaved and show respect for each others opinions to a much higher degree than many other Internet social sites.

Thanks for the reply. I should nominate. I don't head onto FT too often but, as a local, I may be able to help out.

Mods/Admin, not sure I can say more than the others have but I'll add my thanks in too. Will also say thanks to some very helpful and seemingly very knowledgeable members. You guys had me inspired enough to take a status run ex HNL in a few weeks (delayed 40th present) but work flying was sufficient for me to hit WP so the status run became a new Driver, wood and a couple of hybrids (all r11 as I need as much forgiveness as I can get ).

I would like to add my thanks too, I really enjoy this forum and log in most days just to have a read and see what I can learn. I think I would be quite lost without it. Thanks to all of those that have responded to my questions, my knowledge is sparce is comparison to some but your help and advice is very much appreciated. Currently sitting on too many points and planning a OWE award in 2013 for two in J so may have a few more questions yet.

as a new member I would like to thank the mods and members of AFF for the interesting discussions and assistance since joining. maybe one day I'll be able to contribute as much as others and certainly look forward to the years ahead.. cheers.
