Did anybody else who received the double SC email get a call beforehand?

Wow :O You must be a QF superstar or something like that :D

Nope, I've never got a call from QF beforehand a DSC is released. But the point to note is I'm only a Gold, Not LTG :)

But it is a nice gesture from QF - calling to apologize for the delays and what-nots and then also let you know that as a DSC is on it's way :)

I'd like to ask, the delays and cancellations - did it happen to your travel/bookings?

which all sounded like it went in one ear and out the other.

Well, that's QF (or any service industry) for you these day :(

LOL - I wish! A fair number of flights but all discount economy so not as much revenue as others. I did the sums one year and would be easily P1 if I was flying business.

The way it was put the DSC offer was to apologise for all the inconvenience. I didn't believe it for a second of course.

Yes, been a few over the last few months traveling out of CBR and up and down the East Coast. One cancellation meant I had to bail from QF and fly VA to get to the destination on time, the next QF would have missed connections and only gotten me to the destination AFTER my original return flight left.

Never got the DSC but last night I was searching for award flights to LAX next year and (I’m sure it’s just a coincidence) this morning I received a 50% bonus SC email for LAX bookings only

Without knowing the breakdown, 86 is probably not unexpected if you consider flights to/from Canberra. If anything you could have more than 86 political staff CL on one of those flights..

Ministers, Members and Senators are offered CL in an ex-officio capacity. I'm not aware of any staff being made CL but I'd have thought the chief of staff to the PM would be a contender.

Certainly most senior staff (particularly those that are allowed to fly J domestically) would be P1. I know a chief of staff to one cabinet minister who just requalified as P1, with two days to spare!

The only Chairman's Lounge member that I have met (at least the only one I am certain was actually CL), was a retired Admiral.

Wow, that's very specific. Suppose they see the troubles in HK and reckon folks will be wanting to get out.

I think QF see that bookings have tanked.

Numerous dummy bookings for Mrs Pineapple over the past few weeks did not elicit a DSC offer. With 6 months and 55 SCs to requal her care factor is low.

Pineapple also missed out. With 6 months and 5 more SCs to requal once current bookings are done he cares not a jot, but notes vague annoyance factor at being snubbed again.

Right ho, time to actually make that booking at a nice price on nice planes. As opposed to booking QF at a silly  price for an ordinary experience.

Cheers skip

Was looking at flights to South Africa as per the messages above, lo and behold I have just received a 50% more SC email, obviously there is a lot of data mining going on in the background!.

Think we'll book flights to Jo'burg and then organise other flights later, we both want to go to Ethiopia as well and that could fit in nicely with the Safari rally.

This will also put me over the line to LTG.

Here are the T&C. It's not targeted, except that it only applies to HK residents. It also applies ONLY to flights between HK and Australia - no domestic sectors, or any other sectors.

sooo... it actually IS targeted... to residents of HK :p

And actually although the T&C on the email say it's for HK residents, the T&C on the registration confirmation page are more restrictive:

This offer is exclusively yours. Book yourself unlimited eligible flights now and reach your next tier faster. To be eligible for this offer you must have received a double Status Credits on eligible flights between Hong Kong and Australia email on 30 October 2019. This offer is not transferable and applies to travel taken by the recipient of the email only, regardless of other passengers in the same booking.

It would also appear that this may have been only sent to Platinums. The title of the email (not the subject line) says "Soar towards Platinum One with double status credits"

I read your post and did the same for my destinations and poof! 50% Bonus offer the very next day. Thanks!

My timing always seems to be off.

Bought a Business class ticket PER-AKL for early January on the 27/11, a day before this promotion.

The flight date was also a few days before the half price partner premium promotion fares.

So double bad timing.

This is the first Business fare I have purchased on Qantas for over 15 years.

Has anyone had any luck in begging Qantas for a 1 day extension on these status promotions?

Pete.

Why not simply cancel and book again?

You could cancel and re-book if the fare conditions (cancel fee etc) are acceptable to you (note, do not use a credit voucher if one is issued)

but QF won't budge on the promotion booking period - you'd have to change your dates if possible.

It was a business saver fare, and in my circumstance the $200 cancellation PP fee is probably not worth 185 status points.

Pete.
But if you had taken advantage of the sale as well the overall cost might have been less!

I don't understand what you mean?

The price we paid 27/11 is the same as the price today if we re-book to get the additional SC.

I was referring to this remark in your earlier post.
