Im looking at using my points for a business reward redemption for this route before the new charges take effect next year.

From what i can see the only available options at this stage are the DL40 direct flight or the VA flights which seem to be via BNE. None of the direct VA business reward seats seem to ever be available!

From what ive read virgins "the business" product and service wins hands down over deltas "delta one" product and service in all departments.

However i still find myself leaning towards delta for 3 main reasons:

1. Its a direct flight (saves at least 3-4 hours)

2. I understand it uses terminal 2 at LAX instead of Tom Bradley which virgin uses (potentially saving 1-2 hours and the associated frustration that is experience in the customs chaos at Tom Bradley)

3. I could be wrong about this but as i understand it there is no international lounge for velocity frequent flyers to use at BNE. Knowing that with the DL40 flight at least there is the skyteam lounge in sydney where i can have a couple of scotches before my flight is not insignificant haha

Not sure if my understanding is correct so happy to be corrected on any points if im wrong!

Also, 1 question i have is whether the new charges on virgins reward seats will apply to partners like delta? Or will they only apply to VA flights?

**Edit**

Ok so it looks like at BNE there is the singapore lounge to use. Not sure why i didnt think of that one lol

virgins lounge arrangements are so bloody confusing!

Confusing Indeed.

Currently SQ for LAX bound passengers or vouchers. Other destinations get Plaza Premium or vouchers.

Current VA international lounge arrangements Brisbane

However, it's now "My Lounge" from 'early 2019'.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You will find that J reward seats on VA to LA will not appear until around 7-10 days before the date you wish to fly.

Daughter did DL from YYZ-SYD last month and found the international crew were no longer close to retirement as in the past 2-3 times she had done the LAX-SYD leg.
For the oernight return leg, DL direct would kill the VA via BNE besides being able to check the bags through LAX on DL, even from YYZ.

Oh yeah i did figure that out.
Managed to score a business rewards flight via MEL on the way over and a direct flight on the way back. Couldnt be happier to redeem my points before the ugly carrier charges get introduced!
