I like the dash-8's for the smaller routes.. no problems at all with booking them.

Well, my Crash 8 flight CBR/SYD yesterday certainly reminded me why I like the noisy jets versus the reberverating Crash 8's...
Yes, fully agree with you Lindsay Wilson. Even the coffee/tea on the tray table has ripples on the surface from all of the vibrating.

I have never had a problem with the Dash-8's - flown many times to Wagga, Dubbo, Broken Hill, Mildura... in fact one of the nicest snacks I have had in flight was on a Dash-8 - Maggie Beer pate :)
I did SYD-WGA/return on Tues this week. The snack on the flight out was token (cold muffin & sesame snaps) but the return flight was better - crackers, cheese, dip, and four different wines. :D

It was my first visit to WGA. I've been to the city many times before by car but never by plane. Must say that the airport is pretty low level. They are extending it at present but I hope they also refurb the interior. It is old, drafty, unattractive, no security, bags are parked outside in the rain on the trolley. :( I think the locals were happy about the rain. ;)

You neglected the following (bolded)! :p

45 @QP, updating Meeting reports/minutes checking AFF/FT, sampling offerings etc. (QP, SG, WP, CL)
30 minutes pre-boarding.
50 minutes flight.

30 minutes cab to centre of Sydney. ...

I have done a lot of flying on Dash 8s. Mainly between BNK-SYD ret and ABX-SYD ret. They're OK. Service tends to be more personal than on larger A/C. I usually check in early and ask for 1 Charlie or 1 Delta - that's the closest you'll get to J class on a Dash 8 - but the seats are OK and plenty of legroom. After check in I go to the QP if in SYD and get a FOB* If in ABX or BNK I stay off the p*ss until on board where the prices are better.

*Few on board i.e. wines or beers depending on the offerings.

IMHO it is a disturbing development for QF to be selling business class tickets on an all economy aircraft.

Incidentally, this is happening on the MEL-CBR route with the Dash 8s as well as the SYD-CBR Q400s.

It could be a mistake in the booking engine, although they do also sell economy and even Jetstar seats for the same price as full business on multi-sector routes.

Love or hate the Dash 8 or Q400, you wouldn't want to be the poor schmuck who paid the J fare for a Y seat!!!

Just looking at a CBR -SYD flight to get me home from my next "trek"...

Strangely enough the Biz fare on the Dash 8 flight is $411.... on the 737 flights before and after it........ $305.

Flying on a QF Crash-8 is desperate in itself. Those aircraft are loud, buzzy, they vibrate too much, the view out most of the windows is hindered by the wings/propellors, and I dislike having to get off and get onto a bus for a 200m ride to the terminal in SYD. :(
I find the views from a Dash-8 very good and the noise is not really a problem. Sometimes it is more annoying having to put up with the noise in the cabin of much larger aircraft.

I'd rather fly on Virgin Blue's Embraers any day.
The Embraers are OK for short flights but you wouldn't want to travel SYD-PER in one of them.

Well, except when there is cloud cover and then it's worse than a jet, and bumpier.

Actually I wouldn't have a problem doing that. They are quite, smooth, fast, good seat pitch, the cabin feels larger than the Crash-8, guaranteed 2x2 seating, etc. When I flew BNE-CNS and return in a day it was not tiring at all, and by comparison the squishier seating on the 737 was not as comfortable. :-|

What is the seat pitch on the Embraers? Have you read my comments on AFF recently of my shins hitting the seat in front when stretching out my legs.

I do not have this type of issue on a 737 or Dash-8.

John,

Not sure what the seat pitch is. My recollection is that it was better than the 737's, and wider. The Dash-8 has good seat pitch too but the seats are not very comfortable IME and o/h locker space is limited too, aside from all the other dislikes I have.

I haven't seen your other comments, sorry. Don't have much time to read AFF these days.

Lightweight :) Imagine how many flight segments you could get!

Yeah, I've seen your comments, and not sure that I feel the same way with the E170's. As posted in the Inaugural trip report here: http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/trip-reports/virgin-embraer-170-first-revenue-11318.html I was pretty happy with the plane and the pitch and seat width.

Of course different people have different body dimensions and thus different impressions with the seats, but I didn't feel that the pitch was any smaller than the equivalents on other domestic planes.

Why not? A return flight with a few extra segments along the way and you will be much closer to Platinum. And just think of the minimum 1,000 QFF points for each segment....

One thing AFF and FT has made me realise is that QF WP is far easier to attain NOT flying QF! (aside from at least 4 segments)
