Just got rejected for the status accelerator because I’m Platinum Plus at VA. Apparently it’s aimed specifically at Gold and Platinum Velocity members and therefore PP not eligible.

What the? That makes little sense... perhaps whoever reviewed your application didn't know what Velocity Platinum Plus is?

Well, you don't get the benefits of Qantas status until you complete the challenge.

Yeah that’s right. My upcoming trip is J so thought I could get Qantas Gold after this challenge . Guess my question is would upcoming my trip have any impact on whether this challenge will be offered to me or not ?

Probably not. But if you're planning to take those Qantas flights within the next 90 days, and would still book them regardless of whether or not Qantas gives you a challenge, then no harm in booking first.
