ALL Platinum's get at least two SNUs to use.

While that in itself is fine, generally they do cost to use.

If a room Is $x to book strait out, to use an SNU appears to always inrease the base $x cost.

For example, last year I had a stay where the cost would have been under $400 for two nights, but to use an SNU cost ~$50 per night more. In this case I felt the premium was worth it due to the experience. (See below)

However these days when looking around to redeem them, especially in Oz, the additional costs I have come across to simply use them does not seem worthwhile.

To be clear, I think little of booking a room for under $150 per night. I think thrice before booking a room for over $200 but when that is the difference between using an SNU, I'll ordinary take the cheaper option.

Are there any properties out there with cost effective (cheap)way of using an SNU?

Is it the same room though?
The SNU upgrade isn’t always applied to the base room, it might be from a higher room level.
For example I just looked at the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour and their SNU to a Prestige Suite is $607.
The base room rate is a Superior room at $295 but the SNU is applied to Superior Club room which is $607

That's generally my experience as well, SNU applies to one tier below or some other rate that isn't base tier.

Makes finding good value a fair bit more difficult although I got about $2000 (combined) out of them for last year for using 2SNU on an upgrade in London and then because I had a third night, they just gave me the same room for free.

In the T&Cs, basically a suite is paired with the room you can upgrade from. This is often not a base room. The specific T&Cs are

Each type of room eligible for this benefit is paired with a specific type of suite at each hotel offering the benefit. The room type eligible may not be the standard room type.

I managed to get the best bang for $ out of the Sofitel Darling Harbour earlier this month. Booked on the 25% off sale last year for 3 nights for $1732 over the weekend into the Prestige suite from Superior club millesime down from $3185. I really don't think they stack up very well mostly you pay more in the base to get a marginal upgrade. I'm gonna keep putting more effort into Bonvoy, much better worldwide relevance/recognition/upgrades and perks.

Until recently Bonvoy had poor local presence as far as ANZAC properties go, it’s improving but Accor leaves it for dead. Mind you it’s not always about numbers, Brisbane is a case in point where quality is much higher with Bonvoy, the suites at the W for example. The two level royal suite at the Sofitel was good but it disappeared not long after it left the Sheraton fold at the turn of the century.

As for SNU for Accor, I didn’t use mine last year as I didn’t see the value.

I think it’s a bit horses for courses.
I find Accor great for Australia, Asia and the ME but although there are some gems in Europe I find overall Europe properties are a bit poor with far too many mid to low scale and not enough high end properties. Not much experience in North America but although there didn’t seem to be a huge amount of Accor properties the ones we stayed at offered amazing upgrades and service.
Most years we have 7+ SNU’s and most years I don’t use all of them as we generally already get great upgrades from the lowest category. If I see something of great value though I’ll use them. Whilst looking around this year I’ve found a few in Asia where the SNU offers around $1000p/n savings

With dynamic pricing in place, I think the best way is to just see what is on offer at the time of your search.

Agree completely Brisbane is a bit of an Accor weak point and generally few Bonvoy properties but the quality is there in the few they have.

Europe is pretty good for Accor and much more affordable. But on the flip side getting the free breakfast, status recognition and better flexible options they come close.

My biggest issue with Europe is there isn’t enough higher end properties. We don’t stay in Ibis properties and try to avoid Mercure if we can. Needs far more Sofitel, Fairmont or Raffles properties
