SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Each traveller got automatic 40SD Changi voucher
Maybe SQ has been enhanced

About 20 years ago (+/-) we were travelling 5pax KUL-SIN-SYD with SQ with 3 pax under 4
At KUL, they said pick up BP for SYD in SIN. 💩 Antenna activated of course

💩 Antenna was correct - over booked and punted to another SQ 4 hours later.
The vouchers: SGD $50 each.
The cash: SGD $500 each.
Did not need to put on a DYKWIA show either to get vouchers /cash
They must have had at least SGD$2500 at the transfer desk.

Even if it were an option, it's a terribly inefficient use of points.

One-way PE Saver: 53.5k miles
One-class upgrade: 46.5k miles, for a total of 100k miles one-way.

Just booking J saver in the first place would only have been 72k miles.

Upgrades are not available from Award tickets, and from commercial fares not available from the most restrictive (aka cheapest) economy, PE or business class tickets.

The only way to "upgrade" from an award ticket is to spend the extra miles for the higher class. If not available at time of booking, then waitlist in the higher cabin and pray to the waitlist gods that the waitlist comes through, which is very unlikely, but if it does come through then it's a matter of paying the reticketing fee and whatever additional miles are required on the award chart (so in this instance an extra 18.5k miles).

Anyone have any experience with KFF earn on codeshare flights? Specifically a BT operated flight booked through LX codeshare (I'm just assuming the SBB-operated LX codeshare train will be non-earning).

I know LX earns at 125% in Z class, but BT itself is not an earning partner of SQ I think?

SQ and star alliance in general award miles for codeshares based on the operating carrier. If the operating carrier is not a partner then no miles.

However IIRC BT is an exception as these are not codeshares - instead I believe the BT operated flights are under wetlease arrangements and therefore for all intents and purposes are like any other LX flight as far as earning miles go - so you should earn them on these flights.

So a bit like Alliance for Qantas? That makes sense (why else would they be flying MAN-ZRH? 😅)

Thank you! Now I just have to decide if it's worth trying to collect LH miles for the definitely non-earning sectors on VL and DB.

Any thoughts on 21 D/F on the A350LH from Singapore - Europe? Wide open seat availability apart from 14 D/Fand 16D/F from Singapore - Europe. Thought the mini cabin would be quieter and allow us to get more sleep given the flight leaves just after midnight Singapore time.

The opposite in fact.

The mini cabin has the bassinets for business class, and the bassinets for premium economy are immediately behind as well.

Plus you are right on top of the engines, and will have the whole premium economy and economy boarding past your seat.

The front cabin is the way to go.

Thank you for the insight, much appreciated. Row 15 it is! Thanks once again for the quick reply Mel_Traveller.

As of today I am officially relinquishing my ‘AFF No1 SQ FAN BOI’ title. It is now openly available to anybody who wants to assume the title.

I have spent the last 5mths arguing to and from with SQ / KF backend over a F class downgrade to J due to equipment substitution.

For those who know SQ hard product - I was downgraded from 1C on 777 to this:
IMG_0880.jpeg
As a result of previous similar equipment substitution I was able to negotiate a 1 sector upgrade J to F as compensation - but this time after multiple emails back and forth the only compensation I have reluctantly agreed to is 5,000 KF pts - they just would not budge any further.

The final straw was finding out that indeed the entire row 19 ATPIT is indeed not occupied - 19A and 19K are the only seats in J on this aircraft that have any extra space at all - I requested minimalist compensation by them to at least allocate me 19K ( I am RHD) and that I was more than happy to move if indeed this bassinet seat was required by another pax with infant on day of travel - but they even this request was refused.

So that’s it I am out - we are now officially divorced.

Thanks for offering this up @Cruiser Elite but it isn’t for me.
I did a long cut to London by starting in Sydney rather than Perth as Perth only has business class.
Sure I did the Krug and then the icy vodka with the caviar because I could.
Then leaving London SQ check in did not want to give us a Singapore Private Room invite for Singapore because we were flying to Perth business class. Anyway we were on board and we received the invite about 15 minutes prior to the doors closing on the plane. Looks like SQ are doing cut backs.

Post Covid the deterioration of SQ on so many levels is staggering. No doubt most noticeable to those who were regular pointy end pax prior to Covid but I just find it staggering. (Excluding Cabin Crew who are still amazing in all classes on all flights)

That’s a dog act with TPR - also isn’t the rule “Suites have TPR access on arrival” an official rule so like shouldn’t a Suites boarding pass be enough to get in rather than needing the separate Golden Ticket invite?
