SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

sure. arriving F pax get TPR access.

SQ first class passengers can use TPR on arrival (an unpublished benefit)

Thank you MEL_Traveller for this info! I've been reading conflicting info everywhere (even once asked SQ's SIN call centre and they said no), regarding arrival access to TPR, as Mrs MathNerd and I are arriving in SIN from the red-eye SQ218 out of MEL in F, and then onwards 5 hours later on the SilkAir to Male. A 5 hour layover to visit TPR would be perfect.
Do you have any experience asking for the "Golden Invitation" at MEL check-in? With SQ now having moved to kiosk check-in for Y pax, I fear the service levels on the ground would be decreased and no Golden Invitation...

The invitation would normally be issued for lounge access prior to a departing flight from SIN. You'll be using the benefit as an arrivals lounge - which is unpublished. I wouldn't have expected one in this situation. The call centre not being familiar is not unexecpted, as lounges are essentially departure lounges they won't be across the unpublished benefits.

I see. Fair enough. Thanks for the useful info. It'll be quite the experience, MEL-SIN in SQ F, then TPR at SIN and then SIN-MLE in MI Y. Hoping to at least get exit rows in the SIN-MLE leg to make the bump down to Y a bit easier to handle.

Gold TPR Invitations are issued at your original dep port if you are eligible for TPR access. If your R/F flt is only one sector in R/F cabin dep any port other than SIN you will not receive Gold TPR Invitation. If your flt is dep SIN or is > 1 sector and transiting SIN then you are eligible for TPR access and will receive Gold Invitation at original dep port.

If dep is MEL you will normally be handed your Gold TPR Invitation in Lounge and not at check-in – if Lounge Angel doesn’t hand it you then ask for it if you are eligible.

In MathNerd's case because your F cabin portion of flt terminates in SIN then you won’t be handed Gold Invitation but you will be granted complimentary TPR access an an 'unpublished benefit'. (MEL Lounge Angel's are totally aware some pax want Gold Invit as souvenier and as ineligible recipient you might just get lucky and they will hand you one but don't count on it)

Arr access to TPR is an 'unpublished benefit' and technically not eligible for TPR access so Gold Invitations will not be issued.

Thanks CE. Looks like I'll try my luck with the Lounge Angels at MEL SKL then.
Cheers!

Bitten on the rrrse again by SQ R/F shrinkage - ZRH route was always easy to secure R Savers but alas all gone now with new 380 - FRA ret still offers consolation though. FTR - shrinkage affecting me badly!!!

I was not sure where to post this but instead of starting a new thread, I thought I would ask a few questions of the seasoned SQ travellers here, in the hope someone can help.

The scenario is as follows: last year, we used points to book one seat in J plus two tickets in Y (paid), for myself and our then two year old. The idea was to visit our families in Germany over Christmas, routing was/ is SYD - DUS return. Yes, we know how biology works but after booking these flights, we fell pregnant again and the due date was Jan 1, our son was actually born Dec 18. We approached SQ and even though we were on the cheapest fare class for the paid tickets and the points used for the J redemption had expired, SQ were amazing in allowing us to refund the Y tickets in full and reinstate the points, with the condition we book SQ for this trip - outstanding and certainly not everyone's experience but we were suitably impressed, especially as SQ nobodies, no status or similar.

We are now booked to head to Germany in mid-December, with again two Y tickets and a lap infant plus the J redemption for my wife. Questions:

The J ticket is in my wife's name and I am interested to find out whether SQ allow changes without changing the name on the ticket, which most likely will occur charges. So is there some flexibility in swapping before a flight and would you approach the CSM on boarding for that? We certainly don't want to disturb the other J passengers so no constant swapping - not that SQ would allow that, of course - but we feel that changing seats once and immediately after boarding is reasonable. Am I wrong in thinking this and would you agree that there is not much point asking during check-in?

I would normally suck it up in Y with the two kids but the main reason for asking is that our son is very mummy focussed. Naturally, the kids would also not come into the J cabin - again, I doubt Singapore Airlines would allow that but we don't want it anyway... I hope where we are coming from, sharing the joys of J would be great and there is a return journey so that we can both enjoy the longer SIN - Europe sector once.

Thanks for reading this, I look forward to your opinions/ suggestions.

Peter that should not be a problem at all - seek out the Cabin Manager when boarding - no need to find IFM - SQ will certainly accommodate any reasonable request where bubs are involved.

Why can’t the baby go with mum in J? SQ certainly allow it, they even have a bassinet in F.

Yep, we had a great trip to Europe in J on SQ with our 4 month old, the attention she got was great! And the older wide seats on the A380 you could lie down with the bub easily. May have to pay a fee though to have the bub associated with the J ticket not the Y ticket. Luckily ours was booked through Velocity so zero cost for the bub. Think it is 10% of full rack rate in J for SQ so can get exy.

Another quick question for all you SQ experts re seating and kids!

Flying home from France for Xmas with 3 y.o. son. This is the first time we are flying with SQ and have chosen 17A and 17D the whole way.

When travelling with kids in business cabins with herringbone set-ups (e.g Cathay, Air France) I normally chose a window and centre aisle so it is easy to get up and help with meals, TV etc without having to go right around to the other aisle.

Is this necessary with the SQ set-up or am I best chosing e.g. 17D and 17F? Grateful for any thoughts!

P.S. Great site - long time lurker, first time poster.

In my experience, window and centre aisle works well. As you say, easy to get up and move around to assist, rather than trying to lean over partitions etc. We have travelled numerous times with MasterC (who is nearly 5) with SQ in both J and F and they are a great airline to fly when travelling with children.
