SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

In my experience, window and centre aisle works well. As you say, easy to get up and move around to assist, rather than trying to lean over partitions etc. We have travelled numerous times with MasterC (who is nearly 5) with SQ in both J and F and they are a great airline to fly when travelling with children.
Thanks Lady C. Much appreciated.

Hey everyone..

Anyone got last minute waitlisted cleared with last minute booking ? For eg, today is 3rd December, and booking a waitlisted flight for 4th Dec to Singapore, any chances it will be clear ? I need to travel on the 3rd week of Dec and most flights are either not available or waitlisted only. Need to know my chances so i can search for alternative..

a Q for the experts

Ive booked F Long haul about 3 months ago for travel in JUn 2019
Return Leg Confirmed
the To leg, we didnt like the midnight departure, and preferred the 3pm departure
however 3pm was waitlisted, midnight availalbe,
so Plan B we confirmed midnight, with 3pm flight waitlisted,
its now been 3 months and no updates,

realistically will the waitlist clear, or is there activity at the last minute as a general rule?

From my reading on other blogs, often time waitlists in peak periods will only clear a couple of days beforehand at best. I have had one clear about 6 weeks before but it was not peak period. YMMV.

I'm looking for a return flight in J from Europe, eventually back to Adelaide via Sin and possibly Perth as there is more available. we will be travelling around Germany, Amsterdam and possibly Paris. about 12th oct 2019, 3 pax , availability doesn't seem great for 3 pax. Can someone please explaine how the waitlist works, If I go on a waitlist am I able to cancel it if I find something available and book it? Do I have to stump up the points to go on a waitlist ?
Any advice appreciated

Clive

You need the points there to wiatlist, but you don't need to keep them there while you're waiting for the waitlist to clear. So for example you could waitlist ADL-SIN-xx_, but two minutes later use those points to confirm PER-SIN-xx_. If you confirm the PER flight first you won't then be able to waitlist the ADL flight.

Once the wait list clears you'll be sent a message and you then decide what you want to do.

How accurate are the searchable city list in the Krisflyer system? I was looking at Air New Zealand flight to Niue but it doesnt list as a city. Does this mean not an available route or need to call?

TIA, Steven.

I'd cross reference with UA's tool which shows NZ availability. If it shows there you could call SQ.

So the best taktic would be to waitlist my ideal flight, and the book the best available reward, and if the waitlist clears cancel the other and take the waitlist?
Am I on the right track.

Correct. Except I don't know how the re-ticketing takes place in this scenario. I'v only had waitlists on the same route and same date - so didn't need to cancel the ticket it just re-issued it automatically with the new flight time.

Hi there,

I have a quick question re check-in for SQ218 that I'm hoping someone can assist with. Im travelling in Suites.

I arrive in Melbourne at 2pm and I would like to check my luggage....and then go into the city for the day.

Is that possible?

Thanks in advance.

Checkin for SQ228 should be open, but probably too early for them to take your bags. There is a left luggage service in international arrivals downstairs in T2 in case they don't.

Let us know how you get on.

I was not sure where to post this but instead of starting a new thread, I thought I would ask a few questions of the seasoned SQ travellers here, in the hope someone can help.

The scenario is as follows: last year, we used points to book one seat in J plus two tickets in Y (paid), for myself and our then two year old. The idea was to visit our families in Germany over Christmas, routing was/ is SYD - DUS return. Yes, we know how biology works but after booking these flights, we fell pregnant again and the due date was Jan 1, our son was actually born Dec 18. We approached SQ and even though we were on the cheapest fare class for the paid tickets and the points used for the J redemption had expired, SQ were amazing in allowing us to refund the Y tickets in full and reinstate the points, with the condition we book SQ for this trip - outstanding and certainly not everyone's experience but we were suitably impressed, especially as SQ nobodies, no status or similar.

We are now booked to head to Germany in mid-December, with again two Y tickets and a lap infant plus the J redemption for my wife. Questions:

The J ticket is in my wife's name and I am interested to find out whether SQ allow changes without changing the name on the ticket, which most likely will occur charges. So is there some flexibility in swapping before a flight and would you approach the CSM on boarding for that? We certainly don't want to disturb the other J passengers so no constant swapping - not that SQ would allow that, of course - but we feel that changing seats once and immediately after boarding is reasonable. Am I wrong in thinking this and would you agree that there is not much point asking during check-in?

I would normally suck it up in Y with the two kids but the main reason for asking is that our son is very mummy focussed. Naturally, the kids would also not come into the J cabin - again, I doubt Singapore Airlines would allow that but we don't want it anyway... I hope where we are coming from, sharing the joys of J would be great and there is a return journey so that we can both enjoy the longer SIN - Europe sector once.

Thanks for reading this, I look forward to your opinions/ suggestions.

So responding to my query in December, we are back and we followed the advice on here and others in a similar situation might find it useful: we decided to split our time in Business but not swapping around all the time but deciding before take off who would get to enjoy J and who was in Y looking after the kids. The ticket was in my wife's name so if I got lucky - we split it 50/50 - I asked the cabin manager and it was never a problem. A few observations:

SQ is indeed a pleasure to fly with infants/ kids, plenty of legroom in bulkhead/ bassinet (row 41 on A359 and B777W), very attentive staff who love interacting with the little ones. Some questionable meal choices for the child meals, e.g. there was always a huge packet of sugar on the tray and nearly always ketchup, and one meals was a burger with potato wedges.

Speaking to a few flight attendants, apparently decision like this are up to the CSM. On SYD-SIN, our son lost it shortly before landing and they actively approached us to ask whether he wanted to go to J to be with mum. Once she collected him, he fell asleep immediately and slept peacefully for the last thirty minutes or so, without disturbing any passengers.

And finally, on the DUS-SIN leg, there were five (!) split families, with younger generations in Y/ PE whilst the parents were travelling in J. That I found interesting.

I have always found SQ great when travelling with MasterC - sometimes too helpful (in that they want to touch him a lot and he gets freaked out by it). The children's food is for the most part terrible. I never order him a 'kids meal' - I book the cook and get something with rice if he wants that and also rely upon the cheese and fruit plates.

TPR is nice at Changi cbouri.
Understatement of the year ol’ son - again staff recited exactly what I wanted for breakfast last Monday - drinks and food to a tee - just love it when they trot out ‘eggs Benedict - make sure whites are cooked and yolks still runny’.

And show me another airport lounge where breakfast starts with this?

We have a short stopover on Saturday morning to do a tester Cruiser Elite. We may barely make it but should be ok as we get tail wind assistance from London.
