SQ devaluation coming Jan 24 2019

Cleaned out our Krispeso's last night; didn't quite have enough points so paid a hefty top-up penalty, but wouldn't have been able to earn enough points to cover the shortfall plus the deval extra and expect availability later.

This is likely to be our last SQ redemption since points are hard to come by for us. I pine for the old days of KF online redemption discount plus Citibank Signature 5points per $ international spend to rack up enough KF points for a positioning flight to SIN by buying LifeMiles for an onward Euro trip.

For the last hurrah we're taking advantage of a redemption chart sweet spot: PER-TPE for the same cost as PER-SIN. Having a quick look at Taipei before hopping over to Japan for the proper holiday.

well firstly I hope I am wrong with the below.. :p
It seems to me, with the amex deval coming in April, people are transferring out and booking KF redemptions. Most people it seems are transferring out to KF due to excellent availability, which in turn can't remain "excellent" anymore :(

Ok thanks. If I was to book in 2 years time then would it be better? :)

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've also just finalised 2xF return redemptions to Europe before the devaluation. I'd been hoarding points into KF for a bit and I've blown just under 600k points! It was so nice to see the taxes being so cheap compared to QF!

Krispesos? Lol, first I’ve heard them called that. And surprised you would consider their currency value akin to Delta’s Skypesos, unless mentioned in jest.

I realise you’re looking at TPE to Japan, but in case you weren’t aware and were happy to travel PR elsewhere in biz, check this out - PR: SIN/TPE-MNL-YYZ One-way $1500 - FlyerTalk Forums

Toronno of interest?? Credits to EY which can redeem on VA locally.

I've taken to calling all FF program points pesos for fun. Some pesos are better value than other pesos, but they're still all pesos to me in that they can pay for what I really want, but it's hard to know what their conversion rate to real money is and I'll need a bajillion of them no matter what. :)

I check the flyertalk premium deals page nearly every day (except new years day :( ) so had already seen the PR deal, but thanks for mentioning it nonetheless. If we were going to take this up we'd keep out japan holiday from TPE and take PR from SIN as positioning PER-SIN is cheap and quick. MOAR HOLIDAYS!

Easy.
n points from any program = $0, where n > 1.

I don't know of any program that does not state "points have no value".
It's a unique currency, not recognised as legal tender, not digital/crypto, but the annual market is valued in the billions of dollars.
These programs knew they were on a good thing a long time ago...

I think its a dig at the fact they have been devalued! Clearly not in the same league as Skypeso's but the OP may not be aware of the history of other FF currencies.

Well done MH_fan. Could I ask what date(s) and route(s) you managed to score? I've found MEL-SIN-(EUR) availability good in J (when booking 355 days out when seats are bookable) but absolutely shocking (non-existent) in F (at least at Saver rates), no matter when searches are performed (even as soon as seats are released).
What's your secret? :)

Does booking sq metal using velocity points less availability than using KF miles booking direct from sq?

I managed to score SYD-SIN-CDG on Nov 18 and CDG-SIN-SYD on Dec 7. They were pretty close to the dates I wanted. Availability of F saver awards was terrible! No secret tricks. I was lucky and am very relieved that I got to find these seats and 2 of them at that!

Lucky you only need to have 2 pax. I need to book 3 haha. With F X 3 savers it’s impossible :) I managed to do 3 X J on my last trip which was last month on Syd-sin-kul-sin-Syd.

Are SIN-CDG and CDG-SIN on A380? Seems like I can only see B777

For sq can you book 52 weeks out?

On SQ website, can book up to 15 Jan 2020. On VA website, can book up to 21 Dec 2019.

I can’t comment on whether VA phone staff can access the later SQ availability.
