SQ devaluation coming Jan 24 2019

Really love the flexible redemption availability view over 7 days. The only consistent feedback I've been giving SQ is to make their award search search a lot easier. Makes searching for seats less time consuming.

I think the both Saver and Advantage have a 5% increase, which doesn't seem much compared to the last devaluation.

Glad I transferred from VFF to KF before the devaluation and made my bookings for the end of the year before this devaluation. Outgoing flights confirmed but returning flights still waitlisted. I wonder whether they will come through now that those flights cost more with the new rates. Hopefully they do or I'd consider that mightily unfair.

Just got the email too. Happy with the changes and don't mind paying that little bit more now that there are improvements too

does anyone know what happens if you book at current rates then change flights after?

i know you need to pay the US$25 change fee - do they still honour the old redemption rates?

Last year, yes- but some of us (me included) were stuck not being able to move the ticket more than 12 months past the original booking date. I think some people managed too, luck of the draw I guess!

It’s SIA’s program to do with whatever they want, but it’s a negative for me. Means I’ve got to find another 70K Velocity points. I guess do-able but things could change, and those 2 x J EUR redemptions I was lining up could see me me and the +1 flying somewhere closer instead.

Just saw an ad for the anz adventure credit card offering 80k VA points. Problem solved! ;)

Across the board in premium cabins. Economy, FWIW, stays the same.

Getting like QF, selling way too many points in multiple markets and not enough seats available to match demand.
At least economy has been left alone but still this is not a good trend.

AMEX cuts earning, SQ increases redemption rates, WISH gift cards no longer able to buy other gift cards. I feel like the end of pointy end seats is near. 2021 will probably be the last year I can redeem J class for the family.

Hi guys, I got this email too and am confused. I’m reading there’s a devaluation. Everyone’s talking about transferring VA to KF points. So I have 690,000 Krisflyer and 200,000 velocity points. Is it better to fly using velocity or Krisflyer ? I was thinking of transferring my KF to VA so I could fly Etihad first. Would I lose more points converting it before 24/01? Any help would be great thanks

anz adventure credit card offering 80k.

Yeah, I’ve got that card and that 80K was a solid part of the 567K I transferred to SG in order to lock-in what I thought I needed for 2 x J EUR tix. On top of that I transferred the equivalent of 55K KrisFlyer to my wife’s account (VA to VA to SG) “for her personal use”. Yeah, well darling we sorta need that back know, but no inter-KrisFlyer transfers to its stuck there really.

We will be ok as more points in the pipeline, but if that was your last throw of the dice and you had a plan, well it’s gone out the window really.

Redemption rates have to go up over time due to inflation, as we earn more income, spend more money and earn more points, the award seats need to have incremental increases. Its certainly been much easy to earn points volumes in recent times than 10+ years ago.
Yes, I almost agree. But to do this fairly, whenever redemption rates increase by 10%, existing points balances should also increase by 10%. And where points are earned based on non-dollar amounts (e.g. flights by mileage, petrol by the litre, etc.) then the earn rate for those products should also go up by the 10%. But agree that where points are earned by dollar spend then as the dollar erodes with inflation, then so too should the value of those new points.

Knowing for certain that your waitlist for an award booking has been unsuccessful doesn't leave many options for alternatives 14 days out. I agree that this is not that helpful really.
