Speculation: QF to axe MEL First lounge?

I think there's an argument that full fare J pax spending 8x an economy fare should have priority over a platinum with their family spending a few hundred dollars.

If you send J pax to the first lounge, it's not really a first lounge anymore.....

I suspect it's not a substantial percentage not meeting those levels, although probably over represented on these forums.

Heck even doing 120x 10SC Disc Y Domestic is at least $15k

That's perhaps where the spend gets pro-rated? Maybe discount economy counts for 50% of $ spend.

So you want to shift to a revenue based model like the US?? You can keep that.

But QF have already shifted that way... With different types of sub-fare/fare classes earning different SCs and points.

Fairer and simpler...

It's not such a big stretch IMO to see that they go to a spend model. They are already halfway there.

It's still the same system they had 10 years ago. To make it a pure $$$ spend is a totally different system.

It's laughable to suggest someone travelling in J should be allowed in the F lounge because they spend a certain amount of $$$

Naaa it's not (the system 10 years ago).

Eg You get much less now (SC and points) when travelling in discount Y than you did even 2 years ago. There is now discount Y, economy Y and flexible economy Y all earning different SCs and points.

But I agree that a $ spend is different.

The point is, they have gone down the path towards it.

Towards it yes.
But the main difference to a $ requirements is that the $ spend has to be on home airline, whereas apart from P1 there is none of that requirement, although simpler fairer reduced SC earn on some partners.

I'd see a min SCs on QF/JQ, or min number of flights like VA, being introduced before a strict $ requirement

Balony. Disc Y is still the same earn rate. Yes the distances have changed but on a Mel-Syd you still get 10sc on a edeal fare. Tell me what was it before. All they have done is reward higher spenders.

MEL-SYD yes (it's the minimum).

But it changed just about everywhere else.

No it didn't.. the SC earn rate is still the same, unlike VA that did change it.

Yes points changed but SC didn't. The only time the earn changed was if the zone distance did. That's a different thing altogether.

SYD/HBA & ADL/SYD did change with "Simpler and Fairer[SUP]TM[/SUP]"; in the few years before 2005 SYD-HBA/MEL/ADL/BNE all earnt 10 SC's.

Until September 1998, an eligible flight was an eligible flight was an eligible flight, irrespective of booking class.

80 Domestic eligible flights would earn Gold (Emerald) along with QP access (there was distance criteria as an alternative but cannot recall the detail).

Yes, I was wrong.

I was pretty sure my regular MEL-SIN flights dropped from 40 SC to 30 SCs? They sure dropped a lot in points earn! And partner SC earn really dropped! So for me it seemed a big change both points and SC earn.

Here's an analysis of what Simler and Fairer mk 1 did (courtesy of Globaliser from FT).

Errm ... there is QF95 taking the QF10 equipment and departing to LAX ~10pm.

Correct, thanks for pointing that out.

From late March 2018, Tuesday's and the Odd Sunday not having the 2nd flight ( QF 95) rostered on.

Thanks serfty.

So MEL-SIN (approximately 3744 miles) didn't change. I felt sure I got 40 SCs before. My bad (again!).

But the chart does show more down arrows than up arrows.

I remember noticing one day that Jetstar had increased the Plus bundle SCs for MEL-SIN (and every similar SEAsia route) from 30 to 40, which was memorable because QF Y remained 30.

Simpler & Fairer was announced 2-3 days later.

They sure dropped a lot in points earn!

They certainly did!

Is there any room for QF to increase the foot print of the current First lounge?

What about the space of former Emirates lounge opposite the MEL QF F (turn right at top of escalator). I know it's not connected (now) but they could "easily" reconfigure the F Lounge reception to be at top of escalator and have contiguous lounge space to left and right.

That's probably what confused me. I fly a mix of JQ, QF and MH between MEL and SE Asia and remembered the 40 SCs in Y - but they were the JQ flights. And OMG the reduction in SC earn on OW carriers that "compete" with QF. MEL-KUL on MH in J now only earns 30 SCs and 4,000 points! Even MEL-SIN on QF in discount Y earns 30 SCs and 5,200 points (as a WP).
