So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

I once had a BMW salesman reply to a query on a rather large and unexplained charge on his quote as "I have to send my kids to private school, you know". I guess he'd already annoyed me, but at that point I simply walked out.

Anyway, I've chosen my S3 replacement, and will have it on Friday. Not what I was originally looking at, but a member of the same family....
We expect photos!

Nice!

I had a bad experience with Subaru too. Was harassed by the salesman at 9am the next morning after I left the dealership at 5pm and told him I’ll be buying 1 of 2 options but needed a day to consider best choice and I’d call him Monday. He called 7 times. I went to another dealership and gave them the sale for no effort.

Audi was a bit meh too. Had an appointment for test drive. Sat for 45 mins over time (had checked in) completely ignored so walked out without anyone saying a thing. Went elsewhere.

Finally got my Audi back today! It’s been 5 weeks in the repairers and is still waiting for the replacement rim (5 week wait) which was scrapped before the accident! Happy to hand back the X1 as didn’t love it aside from the higher position on road. It had the worst/ touchiest indicator. Seriously missed my key free entry and heated seats! Lol!

The number plate had a bit of double meaning. Yep, it’s a number plate spellbinding of “flier”, which is a plate that I’d never use. But it also fitted something implied above, as it was originally carried by a VW ”R32”.

Apparently XFLYR is available, but it has too many letters for a old bloke to remember.

Remember when the police stop you and ask you your number plate, it’s perfectly reasonable to say I don’t need to remember that since it’s written on the front and back of my car.

Ah-ha, clearer now. It did surprise me...

But we flushed it out. ;)

Looks nice, great colour and great wheels - congrats.

Which model/spec?

To use their rather lengthy naming, XE MY20 R-Dynamic HSE.

I would never have ordered the wheels, but the dealer’s previous head salesman was one for ordering quite a different array of cars to the standard fare (especially with regard to colours). But, they don’t seem to hurt the ride at all. The interior leather is red.
How many wheels on the vehicle?

When I’m in it, or not?

They look great and it looks like a great ride - I’m sure you’ll love it - however good luck with country pot-holes.....

Fatherdoc has an XF with 20s - which when we ordered the car (in stock, but with the 20s) we told them “base spec” wheels were fine (and was the price quoted and paid ie. substantially cheaper). Turns out, they were all ordered with enormous wheels and they either forgot to swap-out or didn’t have any base-spec wheels so he got the 20s foc!

A broken wheel later (albeit it took us a while to realise it was cracked when I noted a vibration and took the wheels for re-balancing.....), I still think the 17s or 18s would have been fine.

Enjoy!

Been driving the Cossie a bit, boy it's old technology. The drivetrain, engine etc is basically mid eighties and it shows. At least it goes and I should be able to get the rego transferred to ACT next week, although it may be a tad too low. Why can't we have have Australia wide rules and regulations?
It doesn't compare to the Focus RS in a lot of ways, steering, handling, coffee cup holders(!) etc. Both being black, it will make for a neat set of photos when the sun shines.....

Took my Porsche to see Uncle Chris for the yearly service.

The workshop looks like Porsche Heaven or Hell, depending on what one is having done. He usually has a Lambo or Ferrari in there too, but the only interloper I could see was a 351GT.

If it is where i think it is, I'd trust him over a Porsche dealership any day! He does a lot of work on race/track cars in this area as well.

He's done work on some of my cars as well over the years.
