So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Hertz pissed me off at some point last year so switched to Avis (amex 5 pts p/$ was the final trigger). They were ok but I wasn't overly impressed with their fleet. Their version of adrenaline cars is Hyundai Veloster... So back to Hertz this year and so far so good. They tend to play with Holden upgrades depends on what's available in the specific location.
Last two rentals got Holden Storm and Calais (both upgrades from Camry). The Storm was fun to drive.
Good car the storm. Very well optioned and that is basicallly my company vehicle, although swap the motor for a V8. Even more fun to drive. The Caprice V that Avis offer is a great car.

In their latest issue, Motor Magazine rated the Ford Focus RS 3rd, behind a Porsche and a Ferrari in their annual best performance car list for 2017. Not bad for a car costing $56,000. However if they bring out the RS500 model as rumoured, I want one!

A well known racing driver sitting in mine at a car show last year. I offered him a drive, but he declined. :(

A true racing legend in your car. Was Mark Skaife in the other seat?
I have a colleague with a Focus RS, who never liked Fords. He is converted now (bought a Ranger Wildtrak) and when he talks about his car, never really takes a breath.

The Pajero is on its way out, and a new Triton is on its way in.

Now to start planning all the things I need to bolt to it before my 9 day trip across the Simpson later in the year.

My new ride...

Loved the Mini, undecided between this and the Countryman, but my Golden Retriever loved this more, so this is it. Only available in auto sadly, but still a fantastic drive! 6 speed and usable. I love it. Jack the Golden R, thinks its his second home..:D

So many car decisions are made by dogs <3 :) :)

A P-plater took out my car a couple of weeks ago :p Total write off so I have been car hunting the last week. While not as flash or fast as many of yours :D I am quite happy with my new vehicle. Ended up with a Honda H-RV TD-iL, top of the range with all the extras :D Only thing that annoys me is that the GPS is not integrated and I have to run it through my phone.
Lovely purplish-blue colour too... :)

This looks awesome, I have been checking out the mini options this week, but think they may be still too small with the children... Are you enjoying it so far?

.... like a pop-up, DIY Lounge for those out-of-the-way airports that lack the basic facilities?

Been looking into this lately for my daily drive...
It's got the turning circle of a Battleship tho,.... and due to its engine being from a Zeppelin Dirigible, it is a tad uneconomical.

Main issue is negotiating with the owner, Peter Jackson, of ewe Zealand ;-)

apparently it has some history in cinema, but who knows.
...maybe this Peter Jackson guy can school me up on its history?

I'm not even going to pretend to know!

Interwebz says 1.4cc, 4 cylinder direct fuel injection, turbo charging and cylinder on demand. 7 speed S-Tronic.

Its not an S model - it's the new Q2 that was launched about a month ago.

We bought just before Xmas a 2017 VW Tiguan and it is a Turbo Diesel and file economy is on a good long high way run down around 5.4 to 5.6L per 100km...
So how many kms on the clock do you guys turn over your personal vehicle's?
250k pushing it or higher?

Im onto my 4th VW
Golf Mk5 (sold at 140000km)
Golf Mk6 (195000km - still going strong hoping to do 250000km, but will need a new DPF)
Passat Alltrack
Golf Mk7

All 2.0Tdi / DSG
Best fuel econ Ive ever got in a golf was 1150km for a 50 litre tank. Cheaper than off peak electricity for Tesla.

Coasting function uses 1L/hour for coasting compared with non coasting on engine braking which uses zero diesel..
So I think coasting better fuel econ on the highway gentle slope while non coasting engine braking better on steeper slope. But i prefer to put it into 6th gear and use normal brakes. I think less engine wear.

Much of them are already planned. Snorkel and rear step bar done before delivery.

ATs in preference to MTs as it is still my daily drive. I carry a sixth tyre carcass on the roof to avoid the hassle of a rear wheel carrier.

Planning some winter tyres for the Passat Alltrack.

AWD/4WD with or without diff locks and traction controls are only good for maintaining forward momentum and some turning (so long as power is provided to the wheels).
It's of no advantage when stopping, braking, turning when power is not being applied.

Winter tyres are supposed to provide better performance in wet/dry/snow/ice when temperatures fall below +7C.

Im looking at the Nokian Hakkapelitta R2 vs Nokian WR D4
The Hakka is the true Nordic snow/ice tyre and I have a set on the Landcruiser but the snow/ice capability diminishes below 4mm tread depth. However above 7C wet performance is not as good. The WR D4 is stil a very good snow/ice tyre - not as good as Hakka but better wet performance if temp > 7C.

Nokian headquarters is in Nokia Finland. Same as that mobile phone company.
