Hi,

Just wanted to guage other's ideas or thoughts on this one.

I'm off from PER-SIN on Jan 5th at 0640-1130ish and off to NRT on ANA on Jan 6th at 0610. The two bookings are on separate tickets and I will have lots of luggage. I have a night booked at the Conrad.

My question is about the luggage. Will I be able to check in as a transfer in the terminal prior to clearing immigration and have them store my luggage for me? I am unwilling to leave it and just come back for it the next am so would have it stored and check in if I cannot.

Any thoughts on what will happen for a 18-19 hour transit?

Thanks

One option if luggage not checked through is to use transfer desk in SIN.

Another option is to let your luggage go through to the keeper (unclaimed luggage) and pick it up again at say 4:00am checking in for next flight. I have done this a few times without issue.

You can check your luggage all the way through even though they're on separate tickets

Does this also work if you leave the airport? Can you get back in to the baggage reclaim? I know the method works if you are staying at the transit hotel for example... you you haven't cleared passport control at that stage.

I won't be leaving it as the luggage is too valuable, and parts of it are also oversize. Will try to through check it at PER, and if not I will use the transfer desk.

Worst case was always going to be luggage storage, but the less lugging of it I have to do, the better. I'll easily be pushing the 40kg SQ limit (just lost *A Gold :( )

Thanks for all the replies and advice.

From memory baggage reclaim is past immigration.

That's correct - but your post above seemed to suggest you could leave the bags at reclaim, exit the airport and head into Singapore for the day, then come back to the airport and try to get your bags back. Just wondered if you had achieved this, and if yes, how you got back into the sterile area.

My assumption is that you head for Lost Baggage.

They are past immigration.

I have arrived into SIN airport late in evening and stayed in Skyview lounge. At ~4:00am cleared immigration and went to lost baggage to claim bags.

In theory I could go into town and come back later to claim bags.

MEL Johnny is clearly deliberately avoiding the question - or does not understand the question - or suffers amnesia - which ever way I get it.

I have done this a number of times a few years back - I know I never actually walked back in the sliding glass doors down on level 1 in T3 to unclaimed baggage and I am almost 100% sure I passed immigration following morn and asked then to be taken back down to collect luggage. This was when T3 first opened - but am not really sure how I did it.

I cannot remember doing it in T2 although dozens time I collected luggage there and stored it there way down in the bowels then out back door to shuttle across to Budget Terminal.

I feel so stupid I cannot remember exactly how I did it but it was certainly not difficult - so many years - so many flts - so much alcohol.

Appreciate that. As TV points out, there must be a way to access some sort of lost luggage office once you are out in the real world.

You cannot get back into the left/lost luggage space located by the baggage reclaim. As far as I know that is a sterile area - hence the warning that if you use a transit hotel, you should only exit the airport through the terminal you arrived.

MEL been thinking o/n - back when I was a paying Y pax I regularly used the Singapore Stopover concept - several hotels were USD1 o/n - with a stopover you could not through check luggage but rather supposed to collect on arr SIN and re-check on dep.

I would regularly just leave luggage behind in both T2 and T3 when it first opened and go back and collect next day - but I just cannot remember exactly the procedure to pick up luggage in either terminal.

Apologies. You are right. The left luggage is after immigration but before Customs/Quarantine.

The trip before I left my glasses on SQ flight arriving from BNE. I returned to SIN later that evening and went to transfer desk. My glasses had been found and were at left luggage. She said I could go out and claim them myself but then need to get back through immigration. She helped me by taking me through staff entrance where they kept my passport and we returned the same way.

There has to be a way to access left luggage from terminal but I am not sure how that is done. Possibly through baggage services?

JohnK what terminal was that? I know T2 if you are facing immigration counters to far left side there is a staff channel there - I was taken out there once and downstairs to collect left luggage but still cannot for the life of me work out how I did it in T3 - don't Sing have some restrictions on clearing immig twice within a 24hr period? Or have I totally lost the plot?

Arrived from HKG-SIN and was departing SIN-BKK. Think T3 but cannot be certain?

I actually didn't go through immigration as such. Not stamp in passport. Escorted through to left luggage and escorted back again. So technically didn't clear Customs/Quarantine.

Must check this out next time as it is a handy tip.

Should be able to through check if you want to as <24 hrs

You can check your luggage all the way through even though they're on separate tickets

When holding separate tickets QF will only through check to other airlines if they are One World members or EK so they'd have to be flying JL not NH.

QF arrive SIN T1 & NH depart T2 so you could collect your bag then proceed to T2 for the early NH checkin unless they are prepared to do this at the transfer desk at T1. Not sure whether they only do this when the next flight departs from that terminal only of if any terminal is fine.

Edit: didn't see you mention the carrier PER/SIN however is your subsequent post you were talking about SQ luggage allowance so SQ to NH on separate tickets should be fine as both airlines are Star Alliance and also both use T2.

Sorry OBB, forgot that QF are now offering a substandard service on this route again. The only real plane is SQ so that is who I am flying. Will probably ask for the luggage to be through checked.
