Singapore transit question

Sorry OBB, forgot that QF are now offering a substandard service on this route again. The only real plane is SQ so that is who I am flying. Will probably ask for the luggage to be through checked.

There may be a snag with baggage through check. SQ's stated policy is that they will through check only if the connecting flight is on SQ ticket stock. From what I have read however, I believe they will through check in two scenarios... (a) same ticket and (b) to a star alliance partner (even if separate). But (b) is not necessarily guaranteed.

List of Partner Airlines

If you are travelling on a Singapore Airlines operated flight and connecting to any of the below carriers, you will be able to perform a through check-in for both flights, provided that the booking is on a Singapore Airlines ticket.

In my experience on multiple occasions SQ allow through checking - of luggage - on separate bookings as long as the airline is an interline partner (most carriers that are not LCCs). Unless this has changed in the recent months. This of course only applies to luggage through checking, you would still need to visit transit desk or airline checkin counter to collect boarding pass and actually "check-in" for the following flight. That may explain the difference between most people's experience and the above referenced policy, which is probably the scenario for full through check - including BP printing.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

OK kids here is the deal - if luggage not through checked and you depart terminal and leave luggage behind it will find it's way to 'Lost Baggage' after 3 or 4 hours or so - no set time limit. To retrieve you must then follow these steps:
1. Pass immigration and reenter Terminal
2. Find Information desk and advise them that you have left baggage behind
3. Information Desk will take you or send you to Police Station inside Terminal
4. Police will issue you with special tag to permit you to dep main terminal and enter baggage collection area - Police will accompany you at all times
5. You collect luggage after proving ownership and Police will escort you back airside into main Terminal if you do not want to re-check luggage or to special bag drop area if to be re-checked.
Disclaimer: Nope I did not do this any time before - I cannot remember the procedure when I did it but that was 5+ yrs ago - above steps were clearly explained to me by 2 agents on A Transfer desk in T3 yesterday morn - apparently it's not at all uncommon and they all clearly knew the procedure.

Thanks all! I won't be doing that last bit with my luggage, its contents is too valuable. I'd rather pay for night storage if necessary.

That said, it seems unlikely that I will have to. Flying ANA to NRT I will either be able to through check or go to a transfer desk and age the luggage claimed and transferred for me, or check in early at SIN land-side.

Not overly concerned at storage costs etc, more that I leave early AM and didn't want to have to muck around with luggage storage.
