That sort of shocked me too it seems to be the norm, the amount of rejections is high in Hungary (as heard on news media) Thanks DrRon for the graphic.

and "The giant beer party opens Saturday as Germany struggles to house asylum seekers, fueling a debate that highlights the immense political challenge the migration crisis poses for Merkel"
“Asylum seekers in particular from Muslim countries aren’t used to encountering heavily drunk people in public,” Bavaria’s interior minister, Joachim Herrmann, said. “It could get out of hand.” From the WSJ

What will happen to those rejected as "genuine asylum seekers" ?

Bus them back to ..... ?

1/2 as compared to full welfare for those considered "genuine" ?

Well here is an official breakdown on sex ratios of those claiming asylum in Europe in 2014.Overal 70% male-

Full report here-
Asylum statistics - Statistics Explained

But Europe doesn't seem to be as acepting as it seems.Less than 20% of final determinations of asylum status are positive. The great majority rejected-

The other problem for Europe that few are factoring in is the political effect of large numbers of migrants. We were in Copenhagen for this year's Danish elections. It was felt by the pundits that the then current Socialist PM was popular and should hold on.But despite the polls the largest conservative party after the elections was the Anti-Immigration party and it's success assured a majority of Conservative parties. It's policy is simply to preserve the freedom and culture of the Danish people.Their leader declined the opportunity to form the government or take cabinet positions.
A few in Southern Sweden also expressed concern about the situation.

There were reports here in Salzburg that they might have to close the train station due to the huge influx of refugees arriving here in the hope of getting a train to Germany. Once they were told that wasn't going to happen apparently most left trying to walk to the closest German border. We head to Venice via Linz tonight so it will be interesting to see what the train station is like today. Im glad we are not trying to go Germany!

Have you had your Sacher Torte ?

I thought that was specific to Vienna? I haven't seen it here. Did have it a few years ago when I dud visit Vienna though.

I didn't rate it.that highly... Just me?

Sure, not 5* 'wow' but simply a solid nice tasting piece of cake that has a genuine local history.

I once stayed in the Sacher Apartment in Vienna whose great-grandfather was the one who created the original recipe which had been sold off to the coffee house.

Something nice to digress from the depressing OP's subject matter

Most are welfare-seekers not asylum-seekers. Just like the farce of the little boy who washed up on the beach - he was killed by his own criminal father who was perfectly safe in Turkey but decided he would go to Germany so he could have dental work done for free.

The EU needs to follow the lead of the Hungarians and seal the borders, remove the welfare sugar from the table (like Denmark with its recent 50pc cut) and end the Schengen lunacy.

Thankfully this will precipitate UK withdrawal from the EU, which will be a great thing for Britain and the world.

Sitting at Salzburg station right now, in the middle of a small group of young (20 something) people that I assume are asylum seekers. Many less in evidence today at the station than there were a couple of days ago. Red cross tent still here and LOTS of police. We are waiting for a train that is going to Vienna. Not sure if they are waiting too or if they are just sitting on the platform passing time.Although I can't understand a word of what they are saying (speaking something g middle eastern sounding, Syrian?) they appear to be swapping notes and I have hears Italy mentioned several times. 4 young men, one girl, one skateboard and all with phones and smoking. No luggage that I can see.

All with mobile phones and smoking they would fit-in perfectly into Australia's welfare system

On a more serious note reading this on the www, Another drowned toddler(a girl) found!! washed up on a Turkish beach weeks after toddler Aylan Kurdi pictures shook us all. A Syrian man was found dead Thursday night at a Eurotunnel facility in the French port city of Calais, police said, in an apparent attempt to sneak onto a high-speed train bound for the U.K. Apparently electrocuted after trying to jump onto a highspeed train headed for UK. It just doesn't stop Croatia is no longer registering AS, A record 473887 AS have crossed the Mediterranean to Europe. Looks like the EU still not made any plans on how to accommodate the many Asylum Seekers (AS).
Turkey has so far spent almost $11 billion (6 billion euros) to provide for

Syrian refugees

AS On a Highway praying Edirne Turkey

and Dutch prosecutors said on Friday they had arrested two Syrians suspected of operating a large people-smuggling ring that brought hundreds of Syrian refugees into Europe. The question is begged to be asked is it safer now to travel. If nobody is accommodated properly in Europe.

Should we be worried ? Are these all real refugees or economic migrants? Will this affect our travel in the near future to Europe?

Something nice to digress from the depressing OP's subject matter

To be honest, I think the vast majority of this thread has digressed from the OP (original post), much of it by the OP (original poster). The only thing from the OP that remotely resembles most of this thread is the question "Are these all genuine refugees" and that was succinctly answered in the 2nd post. "Should we be worried" has largely been answered, no...why would we? And "will this effect our travel in the near future to Europe" has also been pretty much answered even by actually reports from ground zero.

I can't really see the relevance in most of the scaremongering that has nothing to do with the OP nor a frequent travellers forum and nor is it very productive nor in fact, wise. I vote for winding this thread up as it's almost entirely OT and potentially troll fodder.

To be honest, ...... ground zero.

.............scaremongering ................. frequent travellers forum ...................and potentially troll fodder.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, a freedom you should cherish. I am entitled to an opinion too. I reserve it, as I do not see my role as denigrating peoples freewill by posting negative remarks. Some people get it some don't, just because you don't get it, is not my fault. Handpicking a few remarks out of context that were dropped in, to get the the conversation started shows paucity is your forte. Having said that I am far from perfect and like you I enjoy the travel forums and try and make sense of it all. If this is a crime, take this piece offline by all means. However, if not then this topic about the Euro-zone should be a wide topic with an angle on current events especially if they effect travels (which they do), further travels in the future(which they definitely might) or affect free movement in the Euro-zone.(Already you can wave Schengen goodbye almost). What possible Geopolitical situations might contribute to this because of many dynamically changing situations. There is no scaremongering there is you complaining of scaremongering inciting or implying scaremongering. There have been facts pulled into the list from news services regarding the topic. An informed traveler is better prepared traveler. I see no point in sticking ones head in the sand. Earth is not just round(oval), and not just travelling through space around the sun at 30 km per sec, it has people and people are not all the same. Please respect that. If it is of no interest to you ....find another topic.:!:

Rereading my post above I think it sounds a little judgemental and I certainly didn't mean it to be. I was just trying to paint a picture and some of the things I pointed out were things perhaps I was surprised to see. I was/am genuinely curious /concerned /just trying to understand their plight, which I guess is impossible to do anyway given that I am from such a different world and cannot begin to understand what any if them are going through.
As for not disrupting plans, I would say we were lucky. Had we planning to train to/through Germany it might have been a different story.
I'm in Venice now I and you could be forgiven for thinking that the whole world is made up of tourists! Plenty of aussie accents around too..

Past week been through Budapest and Zagreb 4 nights each), heard there were many there did not see one in city.

I fished these snippets out of the WWW. Interesting slant on world affairs one from a Student Volunteer the second from Business including AirBerlin and pension funds! Very little difference in Berlin at the moment.

“We delivered 600 meals yesterday and today we’re prepared for 2,000,” says Joakim Nilsson, a student from Sweden who traveled to the Balkans to help out wherever he could. “This is a world crisis,” he says about the thousands of migrants and refugees who have streamed daily from Serbia into Croatia after Hungary sealed its border.

The Growth of Refugee Inc.

The massive influx of migrants to Europe is giving shape to an industry that everyone from small Greek shop owners to some of America’s biggest pension funds are benefiting from: the business of migration. Air Berlin was paid some $350,000 last year operating charter flights to deport rejected asylum seekers on behalf of the government. In Sweden, the government paid a language-analysis firm $900,000 to verify asylum-seekers’ claims of where they were from.

BERLIN—The German government approved legislation on Tuesday aimed at reducing a record stream of migrants that is causing growing unease among voters and putting financial strain on local governments.
The new rules, will cut cash benefits paid to asylum seekers, speed up the review of asylum applications,
expedite the departure of rejected applicants,
and make it more difficult for citizens of Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro to become refugees.

Sweden is now Officially the Rape Capital of Europe. It's apparently not the Swedish Men responsible.
The Not go to Europe is becoming more prevalent.

Below Picture Temp. Shelter in Hanau Germany. Germany’s asylum system is becoming clogged up by the sheer number of applicants. There are fights prompting calls from some to separate asylum seekers along ethnic, religious or national lines!
For instance by accommodating Christians and Muslims in different buildings. The police have supported these calls, saying they are a struggling with such situations even as they are dealing with a growing number of attacks on the shelters.

This is old news reporting clashes between asylum seekers on the way to Italy.

So, it is no surprise it can happen in the shelters.
