Should I get an Ipad?

Mrs Paddy and mine have been delivered to her work bright and early this morning.

Need to workout how you move from iPad V1 to iPad V3, then zap iPad 1 before I give it to a slobbering junior Paddy!

There should be a button in Settings > General which allows you to delete all data and settings - or you could simply restore it as a new iPad. :)

Mine is on its way according to the track shipment log. Dammit it should have been here by now! iPad 2 is backed up and ready to be restored on to the new iPad. Come on TNT...come bloody on!

This is what I would do if wanting a vanilla install. I am planning just to delete most of the apps off iPad 1 when iPad 2 goes to mrssimongr from a back up of ipad 1...

Found out why many of the cases are being cleared out, it seems the sleep/wake sensor has been moved on the new iPad.

Right - in hand!

Went to the Burlingame store today and there was a 20min line out the front. Overhearing some others in the line - they decided to come to Burlingame too as the San Francisco and Valley stores were all low on stock/had big lines.

Got to the front and bingo - still had stock of the 32's :)

Quick question though - can you get the screen protectors for the iPad like you do with the iPhone?? I notice it smudges real easy.

Sure... before even powering my shiny new iPad up I put a screen protector on - invaluable.
A number of brands available - bought mine at OfficeWorks

Never used a screen protector on an iPad and never had a problem. It is not like it will be scratched in your pocket. Case protects it otherwise.

I've never even used a screen protector on an iPhone which is in my pocket most of the time, and I've never scratched one (I'm on my third) yet. Corning Gorilla Glass is very hard!

I wouldn't bother with one on an iPad. A little spray of Windex on an absorbent paper towel wiped over the iPad every so often is perfect. For frequent CX flyers, the CX fresh wipes are great too ;)

+1 to the you-don't-need-a-screen-protector votes. I've never scratched any of my iPhone or iPad screens. To me it's like covering your furniture. Why not enjoy it the way it was meant to be?

Never used a protector on my iPads, and no scratches to be seen. However, I took the screen protector off my iPhone 3GS 2 weeks before replacing it with a 4S, and then put it in my pocket with my keys by mistake, end result two small scratches in the middle of the screen :(

The screen protectors are very cheap at Target at present, sub $10. As are the cases!

So how are we finding it? The screen is much brighter and you can tell the icons that have been updated for retina display and those that haven't - I can't wait for some of the games I have to be updated (didn't notice much difference in Real Racing 2 that allegedly has been updated).

I haven't been able to really test out the movie quality differences - I grabbed a blu ray rip of Star Wars and played it on both the new iPad and iPad 2 - couldn't see much difference.

It certainly snappier opening apps though.

I think I need glasses because, while the screen is better, I can't really appreciate all that much of a difference. I think I can feel the extra weight though, even though it's supposedly only 51 grams.

I don't have a protector on the iPad but I do have one on the 4S
SWMBO had to replace the protector on her 4S after a week and then again after a couple of weeks. You can probably guess why I call her handbag a rubbish bin :D

Thanks guys. I'm always making sure my iPhone has a screen protector, so just thought the iPad was the same.

I have the smart cover, so maybe that will be sufficient.

Loving it so far - still have to get all the apps updated and set up though.

Keep yourself warm this winter - with a new Ipad!

Reports are circulating is the new iPad can get quite hot, noticeably to the touch and sometimes suspending itself with a "The iPad needs to cool down" message.

Mrs Paddy and I are two happy campers

Compared to my iPad V1 appreciate the comparative lightness, improvement in screen, and noticeable improvement in speed.

Found I had to download all my Kindle books...

Well, my 4yo uses our iPad2 so not only do I use a screen protector, I use a Mil-spec one. After making two attempt to put on the cheapies (obviously I couldn't find a dust-proof room). I bought one that you spray a liquid on and it takes 24 hours to set (much like car window tinting). It's excellent. Lifetime guarantee too.

I find the iPad is just way too small (storage wise) to be used as a photo repository. Especially at the file size my DSLR shoots at. (hell my camera has more capacity anyway). I just travel with the laptop. And the iPad.

Going back to the original question "should I buy an iPad" yes

Should you buy your dad an iPad? NO!
