Selecting seats on Finnair reward booking

not on a CR booking :) All seats including window bulkheads were FOC, even for bronze.
I think it may also be carrier/ route dependant and what they may hold back for their own elite travellers. In years gone past when I was P1 and MrsN was default WP we could pick any seat on QF and almost any seat with other OW carriers. On QF when booking CR for my parents both NB if I was not in the booking they were only allowed to pick certain seats further back in the cabin. Now I am back to LT SG on QF I can only select up to R4 on the a330 and 787, I have not flown on the QF a380 since dropping back to gold but would assume emerald city may not be available at the time of booking.

I have noticed similar when booking JL, CX not so much with EK or other QF partners not in the OW alliance. For the seat map I posted above MrsN was gold and MissN in the same booking could pick any seat in J. I am also on the same flight but in Y, I could pick any seat in Y however the AY aircraft runs Y+. Y+ was not an option to book CR as it is short haul (LHR-HEL) which is an AY thing, in conversation with @serfty who is on the same flight, he could select the Y+ cabin based on his status where as I had to pay a few bucks to upgrade my seating to Y+.

Not my experience, it may be route dependent.

My partner and I both flew two CR legs on AY in J (separate PNRs) from DUB-HEL and HEL-JFK. As a OWE I was able to select any available seat on both flights; my partner was only OWR at the time and had fewer seats to select from on both flights.

Booked yesterday
Did you receive e-ticket (.pdf) from Qantas that has an 081 ticket number)? If not, its not been ticketed yet.

If no ticket, I first add APIS via Qantas Website for the booking and see if that sees it arrive within an hour. If not call as it might be stuck in a queue somewhere and if so you are at risk of losing seats so it needs follow-up.

Minimum DoB is usually required for all international bookings to ticket.

Either way, can never hurt checking that.
IME correct for QF to accept and book the flight, what is passed through the the actual carrier system by QF is anyones guess. For the same booking which I posted the seat map above, this is for the same booking from the actual carriers website.

This is the Finnair thread :) accept other airlines are more like QF holding back seats for elites.

CR in business - no status - able to select 2A and 2L on the a350 SIN-HEL. also for connecting flights ex HEL, all seats FOC

My comment is in relation to ticketing (by QF). Checking DoB (in the APIS section) is a simple DIY thing one can do to facilitate expedited ticketing by QF.

It doesn’t surprise me at all that not much else comes across to the operating carrier. I’ve seen that literally hundreds of times and never assume they have my details.

I booked AY recently as a reward and I was able to enter my QF PNR within minutes of the booking.
This happened for us too for QF reward seats on AY in August and September 2025. Almost immediately after making the booking. I just used the Finnair web site and QF PNR.

I have no issues selecting seats with the finniar flights I have booked with classic rewards 081- ticket.

My Emerald status appears to work well.
