I have been reading the "rights of the tall" thread (http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-discussion/the-rights-of-the-tall-32996.html) and thought to myself what a load of tripe. We are in a user pays society, you want - you pay.

An undertone of that thread seems t be that the status PAX take the Emergency Exit row seats on most flights. I am very interested in where status PAX sit on an aircraft, because my preference is as far forward as possible, and what happens in the Emergency Exit rows on a AC is of no concern to me at all.

For flights >2hours I generally will choose an exit ahead of time, then select row 4 at T-80 if available. For <2hours as far forward as I can, so yes I have no idea what's going on in the exits either!

I'm 187cm tall so prefer the legroom, and I'm happy to pay for it where required.

For long haul I book Y+ or J, as sitting in Y for 4+ hours really doesn't appeal...

I selected Im Silver - sit in Emergency Exits whenever possible, but Im Silver - sit as far forward as possible could also apply... It really depends on the plane type especially when they do Y+ seating for Y pax...

I put in silver - as far forward as possible, although it doesn't apply all the time. On the A380, you'll usually see me back in row 80 when flying solo. On the CX A333, you may find me as the tail-end Charlie. Having said that, if I have a transfer to catch, or have an appointment soon after arrival, you'll see me as far forward as possible, regardless of the plane type.

I generally work on flights, so I'll take an exit row when I can to have enough space to open my notebook. If that's not available I'd rather be up the back of the bus with an empty seat next to me...

In relation to Qantas Economy seating

No vote for me as no relevant option to select - WP

  • [*=1]763/737/330 - Front row bulkhead/"row 4" over exit then as far forward as possible otherwise.

  • [*=1]Bulkhead on 744 (refuse to pay for Exit)

  • [*=1]80A/K, 71D then bulkhead 388 (refuse to pay for Exit)

I'm 1.9 mtrs tall. Exit row isle seat for me knees please. :)

My choice is a bit more complex than the poll provides for.
737
1. Row 4 (usually window, sometimes I will settle for aisle)
2. Exit row window seat
3. Furthest forward window seat

767 and A330
1(short flight). Furthest window seat forward for short flights.
1(long flight > 2 hours). Exit row seat
2(long flight > 2 hours). Furthest window seat forward for short flights.

Don't care where I sit. As long as a have a table to work on I'll be happy. I'm also relatively short (173cm) so seat pitch usually isn't of concern.

1.95m tall so exit row desired. But getting it is the exception.

So in the usual event I don't get an exit row, aisle seat will do. I used to like window, but recently my back has been killing me on flights, so I like the aisle as I can get up and walk easy. Not fussed where, but if carry on only then the aisle as far forward as I can get.

Which on QF as an NB on a B737 is 19+ and B767 is 40+.

The outcome so far of the poll, only hours old, is what I would have expected.

Interesting, I am looking forward to seeing the end result

I responded "Plat - as far forward as possible", but it is a generalisation for me. On a 738 in Y, in order of preference: Row 4, Exit, as far forward as possible. Almost without exception aisle. With other chariots it varies, but tend to prefer forward, but would take emergency exit seats over 'standard' forward seats. Oh, and almost without exception aisle.

Whilst I sympathise with the seating problems I think the tall guy needs a reality check. I'm willing to bet if he was seated or standing in front of me (178cm) at a concert he wouldn't be ducking down to help me see the stage.

As a SG if in Y, a Exit Row, if in Y+,J,F as far forward as possible window seat.

I'm Platinum and like to sit as far back as possible because:
  1. I like the privacy; and
  2. I can lean my seat back onto Row 4.

Plat and picked as far forward as possible but distinguish between int and domestic;

int: Upper Deck.... and yes I can say as a status pax I tend to get the exit row so guilty there
If I have to fly whY on QF747 I go for row 40 and on BA I do get the exit row
dom: I tend to sit in row 2 on QF when possible otherwise row 4

No Status - Only Points.

So to Melbourne with QF J Class from BNE. If I go to Sydney JQ from OOL and always pay for extra legroom as far forward as possible.

Internationally as far forward as I can get - without being in the galley (I dont like washing dishes ) or being in the coughpit (too much responsibility)

And yes I am 1.9 mtrs and yes I am aware of blocking view at concerts and do my best not to !

Tall people - hard to by clothes to fit, always hitting our heads and prime candidates for DVD on LCC !!!!! LOL !!!!

I'm platinum and picked as far forward as possible but should qualify that vote.

If I'm flying domestic I'll go for the furthest forward aisle seat. I don't like asking people to move but have no problem being asked.

I haven't flown much internationally yet but so far am gravitating towards furthest forward aisle seat.

For Qantas, I'll aim for row 4, if I don't' get it, row 5 will do the job for me. When I land in Sydney it's usually go go time for me, so I'll want to get off as fast as possible.

On Virgin, similar story, I'll always go for Row 3. It has the legroom of PE and is up the front. I'll avoid row 4 at all costs as it has the least amount of legroom for seats in front of the wings.

Always isle on domestic flights.

Definitely as far forward as possible. I am a smoker and when that plane lands I want to get off it asap. (and yes I do stand up immediately and get ready to exit, and no i don't care if you stare at me).

I don't fly economy internationally as it drives me nuts, but I still like to be up the front for the same reason. Although for some reason I do like the upper deck of a 747....

I'll take the aisle seat on the first row on Y if it is available otherwise I stick to the exit row aisle I chose when I booked the seat.
