Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

There's 3 QF9 seat maps ...

MEL-SIN, MEL-LHR and SIN-LHR.

For MEL-LHR/SIN-LHR 80ABCJK are occupied, 80H is free.

For MEL-SIN 80A/K are blocked, 80B/C occupied and 80H/J are free.

Ahh, silly me. I thought of putting the route in (SIN-LHR) but then considered it redundant because of the flight number!

Well, confound the person who reserved 80B! Thanks very much for the info :)

Oh, and as a note, 71D was reservable for a booking I made for my brother on LHR-SIN, ops by QF but booked on the BA codeshare. Reserved seat using the QF PNR. No frequent flyer details attached at all.

I think my question has been asked and answered previously but I can't find where.

I have previously selected my seats for two flights (separate PNRs) on QF domestic mainline, one on a 73H and the other on a A332. On expertflyer.com my seats are shown as occupied but without the usual Platinum shadow. Although the flights are this week (the second just greater than the 80 hour mark away) and have few seats allocated according to the seatmap, the shadow still isn't appearing. Additionally, when I try to view the seatmap for both flights through my QF profile, I get an error message saying it cannot be displayed.

Any ideas?

Hi! I'm new to this forum, so my apologies if I am posting this in the wrong area

I'm trying to find out how full the economy cabin is on flights I have booked in April/May. The flights are:

VA2 LAX-SYD April 28
VA1 SYD-LAX May 16

I joined ExpertFlyer on a free membership, but from what I have access to it shows that there are only 24 occupied seats in economy, apart from those that are blocked. Surely that can't be right?? When I log into VA website and look at the seat selection it is only showing ABC/HJK availability in rows 27,28,41,42,47,48 and 49 for both flights.

I checked FlightStats too. It shows 9 for all letters in coach, except O which shows 5. So this means the flight is pretty open too right?

I realise I only booked a V Promo fare, so I'm not expecting miracles here. I'm happy to pay to select seats (which they are now letting you do with V Promo), but I'm not sure if it's worth it if the flight isn't all that full.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on the best seats I could pick, I'd appreciate it. Not so much for me, as I'm not that picky (like I said - I don't expect much when I pay the lowest fare I can get), but more so for my husband as he is a large guy (not tall) and he is a little nervous as this will be his first long-haul flight to Australia (or anywhere for that matter lol!).

Many thanks from a newbie!!!

Hi,
flying QF7 on Mar 5th (SYD-DFW) and have seat 44H - what rows do have the PE seat for Y ticket ? And from what you can see is this the best seat ?
Also - flying QF108 LAX-SYD on March 10th - have seat 40G allocated - again this look like lonely seat at Y bulkhead (which would suit me) but any other suggestions welcome.

Thanks

General question.

I have booked J seats on CX178 from MEL-HKG and CX101 from HKG to SYD. The Qantas manage booking site allows me to select the seat on the MEL-HKG leg, but on the return HKG-SYD leg it says I can only select a seat preference Aisle/Window. And then when I re-check the booking it's put is un 11A and 14A.....!!!!! :(

Now as I'm travelling with my partner, i want to be able to get the 2 middle seats on the new J class so we can chat. But I can't select seats!

So my question is how can I pre-book the seats? Contact Cathay directly? Contact Qantas since it's a QF awards booking? Or too bad?

Thank you.

Just ring CX & double check if the seats 11A & 14A are actually confirmed or are they just requested only.

There have been issues in the past where the QF MMB allowed you to 'select' seats on CX but the QF pnr just showed "HN" which is a pending status ie those seats were not confirmed in the CX system.

It may be better now that CX have moved their res system from Cupid to Amadeus, however I would definitely call CX & ask if they can allocate you seats together now. If you leave it until you get to the airport it may be too late.

It's EZE for QF17/18.

In any case, you have the new 3 class configuration with economy starting in row 43.

Thanks, Qantas ended up changing the plane about 1 week before so my seat choice of row 69 turned into a 3/4/3 row instead of 2/4/2 like the one shown. My return flight to EZE is still showing the new 3 class config starting with 2 pair seats at row 69, fingers crossed they don't change it again like they did for the other flight.

For QF9 on A380 departing in a couple of weeks with row 50 blocked and not taken on a fairly low load flight, when would row 50 open up for me and my partner (both QF NB, used to be Silver) if they remain empty?

T-80?

Thanks.

I rang Qantas and they didn't know why the return leg seat chooser was not available on CX. The lady promptly booked us in to 15D,15G :D Perrrrrfect!!

Does anyone know whether AA will allocate QF SG pax (ie OWS status) preferred seating/exit rows as sometimes even when you book 2 months in advance the only available seating are middle seats scattered everywhere.

I guess I could always put the booking on hold for 24 hours & if they didn't come to the party just let the booking autocancel. I only want to keep the booking if we can confirm decent seat allocation ahead of time.

I'd still be inclined to double check with CX that those seat numbers are in fact confimed & not just showing as pending. You don't want to find out at the airport that they're not confirmed.

Yes but in my experience you need to do the following if booked on AA Australia:

- Access booking on AA AU.
- Remove frequent flyer number.
- Access booking on AA US.
- Add frequent flyer number.
- Logout and access booking on AA US again.
- Select preferred seats.

Preferred seats don't seem to be available on AA AU, and the US site won't show them unless you've entered your frequent flyer number there.

I logged in to the cathay website and seats are showing as "15D,15G" and next to that "Confirmed". Is that as good as it'll get?

Also do I need to do an online check-in early on the day to make sure we get these seats? I.E. can some CX FF come along and boot us out at checkin if he's a platinum asia miles or something?

I expect the "Confirmed" is relating to the actual reservation and not to the seat assignments. But in my experience, CX seat assignments generally stick unless there is an aircraft type change.

No other passenger is going to be able to boot you out through any on-line system. The only way it could happen is if they called the airline and made a request and the airline decided they would honour that request. This is very unlikely to happen unless the other passenger was a serious VIP/CIP in the airline's opinion.

Check-in just confirms your intention to travel and that the airline has all your correct details. Its unlikely to make any difference when it comes to seat assignments changing. That can happen before or after check-in. If its going to happen, then it will happen whether you have used on-line check-in or not.

Agreed - short answer is yes you do get preferred seating.

As an aside - I personally recommend not using the Aus site. I never use it - and have lower blood pressure as a result :)

Thanks NM. But ringing up isn't going to make anything 'more confirmed' than it already is right?

Screenshot: http://img.tapatalk.com/3aa3afc1-b972-8a84.jpg

Looking at the screen shot it shows that the 'confirmed' specifically relates to the seat allocation not just a reservation on that flight so pending any change of aircraft, those are the seats you should get.

The "Confirmed" related to the status of the booking, not the seat assignments. No phone call is going to make the seat assignments any more likely to remain unchanged.

The phone call I was suggesting was merely to confirm those seat numbers were showing confirmed in the CX system as like you said calling up will not do anything to prevent a plane change happening.

What happened to a couple a while back was they had requested seating eg 38AC on a CX SYD/HKG booked via the QF system but the request for those specific seats stayed on a pending basis ie did not generate to CX. The pax thought they had those seats confirmed because that's what QF res had told them but I guess it was just an honest mistake & res didn't pick up on the "PN" status & thought it was "HK".

End result is when they checked in at BNE to go BNE QF x/SYD CX HKG they received two middle seats in different rows on the CX flight and were most upset because they believed they were sitting next to each other.

In this case had the pax called CX they would have been told there was no confirmed seat allocation so it could have been fixed up ahead of time rather than finding out at the airport. They could also have checked the CX website as per the screen shot above but my guess is they may not have known their CX pnr if booked through QF.

Back then CX were using the Cupid Res system so now that they're an Amadeus system user I'm sure the communication between CX & QF is a bit more seamless.

Thanks Oz and NM. Given 15D,G show up in CX system, that's comforting :) Can't have my honeymoon flights sitting apart!!
