>>>> ADDED 30 Sept 2010 <<<<

Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

G'day gang - a slightly unusual seat availability set has presented on an upcoming QF SIN-SYD, operated by a 333. I'm booked in Y (H Flex), and as a WP, I would typically have access to anything behind the first row or 2... but on this flight I have row 25/26, and then nothing until row 32. They're all blocked. Thoughts on why? The load is not particularly full, with 9s through to N class still at this point.

This changed, perhaps 6 weeks ago.

It's now similar to domestic where mere WP have to wait until a few days before the flight.

I just requested the bassinet row for our flights to/from USA. It's QF7/8, so the A380. I asked for row 81, and this is how the conversation went.

Agent: "Sure, would you like me to book 81 ABC?"
Me: "Um, do you mean DEF?"
Agent: "81 is all a bassinet row."

I got DEF as it's right in front of the bassinet. I'm just curious why I wasn't offered DEF to begin with? Do parents sit in ABC and have their child way over in the bulkhead bassinet?

Really?? Even behind row 24? I’ve got another flight on the same booking on the 388, and all rows except the first row of Y are available. Is it limited to the 33X?

Possibly - I had a late December trip on 333s booked 8 months ago where I was able to select rows 23 and 24 after booking, but some time in December those rows became blocked in the manner you observed. I still flew as already allocated.

I don't have an international 73H booking to check.

That is Rubbish from the Qantas Staff Member!

Row 81 ABC are standard seats, right behind the coveted 80A (and 80K for HJK).

I know right?! I was looking at the seat map on Seat Guru as I was talking to them, so I really couldn't understand how they were arriving at that conclusion as they had to have been looking at a seat map as well on their screen.

Do you know if 1A would be to close to the toilets?

Row 2 is the one to go for. But not 2F. Dunno where that recommendation came from. 2K would be the pick followed by 2A. Row 1 is missing a window and is too close to the front of the aircraft (although 1K might be ok), row 3 is too close to the galley.

In order 2K, 2A, 1K, 1A, row 3 windows, row 2 middles.

Thanks for the info! Sorry I meant to write 2K not 2F (middle seat duh!!). Switched my 1A to 2K :D

New question re multiple seat allocations...

I have a linked booking issued by a TA on ET ADD-DXB then QF DXB-SYD.

Using the ET PNR I selected a nice seat on the ET website for the first sector, which appears to have stuck according to tripcase. Then I went for seats for the QF sectors on the QF website and in walking through the sectors it asked me for window or aisle preference for the ET sector. I selected 'aisle' to be consistent with my existing selection and -bingo- QF came up with a not-so-nice seat allocation. This has also stuck according to checkmytrip.

My question is what seat will I be likely to be allocated? The nice ET selection on tripcase or the not-so-nice selection on checkmytrip? Should I worry about going back to the agent and trying to cancel the not-so-nice seat selection?

Cheers skip

Go back and select your ET seat on th ET website the same way as before, asap before it goes.

If you have status then NEVER select window or aisle on QF.com when that is the only option - use the SKIP option.

The operating carrier's system/website for that particular flight is, more often than not, what you want to pay attention to. Ignore anything else.

We have booked our first business class trip SYD-SCL. It is on flight QF27 and we have been allocated seats 16K and 16J upstairs on a 747.
Seats 3A and 3B downstairs are available for me to change to if I want.
Not sure - there is a mixed review for 16K and 16J because of the stairs and proximity to galley.
I would love to hear from any seasoned business classers about what would be best.

Hi there maaz,
I do that flight all the time, but as I travel solo I usually go for 5B or J - they are individual seats downstairs. Your choice between 16K/J and 3A/B is interesting. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with 3A/B - these are the last row in the forward nose cabin, which is IMHO so much nicer than the main J cabin (rows 5 - 8).

But, many like the experience of the top deck - there is certainly more room against the window, and it has an overall great feel. In row 16 you would be near the stairs and "galley", but agian IMHO the stairs are great - almost noone uses them during the flight, and row 16 does not exist on the "left", so those seats would actually be more private than 3A/B.

One thing I do suggest, is that on the flight back (assuming you do QF28), then select seats on the left side - if you wake up halfway through the flight there can be amazing views of Antarctica.

(One last word of warning - I am not certain but I think that the last remaining "old" QF747 still does these flights occassionally - the way to tell is looking at the seat map for row 5 - if there is a row 5, you have a new plane - if there is no row 5, you have scored the old bird. If it is that old bird, try like hell for anything in rows 1 to 4 - these are old First seats, not flash, but far better than the horrible old J seats in the rest of the cabin and upstairs!!)

Thanks Juddles. We have decided to stay upstairs on the way over. I always wanted to travel on the upper deck of a plane. Then - as you suggested - go on the left hand side on the way back. Seats 6A and 6B are available on QF28 so I have changed to those. The thought of Antarctica slipping along underneath (to the side of) is such an incentive. Thanks again. Maaz

QF11/12 seat selection:

SYD-JFK and return
QF app and website only seems to allow seat selection for 1st sector of QF11
QF12 seat selection also only for 1st sector but not holding in system.

. Any way around this without 131313?

Interested in hive mind thoughts on A389 13JK for QF1 & 2 (J class) - seat guru says can be noisy due to proximity to galley and toilets (upper deck) are we better to move back into larger business cabin behind? We are flying in August/September
