>>>> ADDED 30 Sept 2010 <<<<

Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

I'm hoping someone with EF might be so kind as to check QF15 on Wed Dec 13 please?

We currently have selected 5B, 6A, 6B for our party of three which includes one child. As I've never flown on the upper deck I'd like to try if before the 747s are retired.

As SG I see this:

While I'd be happy with the exit row, that won't work with a child, so I'm wondering if they're actually taken, or just blocked.

Departure and arrival ports are helpful ;)

If you were worried about this for operational reasons, I think you’ll find that it is not such an issue on the upper deck of the 744, as I understood it to be that the crew would operate these exits in an emergency. Hoping someone with more knowledge of this can confirm!

Cheers,
Matt.

Interesting. I just assumed pax <16 years old were excluded from all exit rows. If there's an exception for the upper deck on the 744 I'd love someone to confirm it, so I can snap those seats.

Yes. I wish I could recall where I read it -most likely on a discussion about people that didn’t appear fit and willing to assist in an emergency - but it seemed to be that there are certain exit rows on certain birds that they are not that phased about, as the crew operates them. I think the fact that you can select them on your flight is a good indicator, as well? Still, I’d await confirmation, just in case.

Cheers,
Matt.

No can do I'm afraid. I tried to do online seat selection and the pop-up about exit row requirements was there.

I'll hold out for T-80 and hope the vacant or blocked seats are still available.

Ah, fair enough. I’ve been looking about and all I can find was a bit on the A380 and crew operating the upper deck exits on that. This might be what I was recalling, and not on the 744. Hope the seating works out for you either way!

Economy Plus or Exit Row on China Southern?
Not sure if this is the right thread to post on, but I'd love an opinion please.
I'm flying SYD-CAN on CZ326
Booked into Economy, and I'm trying to choose between "Economy Plus" (32A) or Exit Row (42A) for paid seat selection. Both are the same cost +$117 AUD for the seat selection.
From what I gather, Economy Plus is just more legroom relative to standard economy, and seats/meals are the same. According to Seat Guru, 37inch (Premium Economy) vs 32inch (Economy).
So essentially, I'm trying to work out if Exit Row 42A has more legroom than the Economy Plus 32A ?

Thanks in advance

Unless there is a bulkhead in-front of the exit row seat that would be the one to choose. (Actually, if there were a bulkhead it wouldn't be priced as an exit row.)

Note I am only going on the seat map, as I haven't flown that aircraft.

Q. Seat allocation on Finnair.
a OWE can request Economy Comfort seat at no cost (via call centre). Does that include other non-status pax on that booking?
thanks

Thanks so much JessicaTam. Follow up question if I may. I'm travelling with a mate, and we'd like to sit together in the exit row, but currently only seats 42A and 42K are available to reserve. Has anyone had successful experience in convincing their neighbours to to a "switch-a-roo" so they can sit with a friend? Or the likelihood of the check in agent shuffling things around so we are issued seats together. I suspect the latter is unlikely since the people next to us on 42B and 42J have paid to choose that specific seat but interested in thoughts from anyone please.
ps. There are no rules about working on a laptop in Exit row are there?

I suspect relocating to otherside of the aircraft would be too inconvienient & window seats often have less legroom (door infrastructure) and often get cold. Probably why they chose aisle seats.
As an alternative, after departure, you may find empty middle row seats at the back of the aircraft, but you may not be permitted to relocate if in an exit row (?). Sometimes the seat arms raise providing a sort of 'flat bed' across 4 seats.

Most likely due to the QF status (or lack of) linked to your EF account.
Here's a platinum view, for example, of the same aircraft on that route.

There is no requirement for passengers to be in exit rows on widebody aircraft. Cabin crew are seated at exits for all relevant phases of the flight (ie you can move out of your exit row to a set of two/three/four seats if they are free)

Why does UA seat selection not stick.
J class
Seat selection via UA website. Pressed confirm. Get whirly bird one moment please page then back to bookings page with the traveller details showing seat allocation as empty. Tried 3 times each time the seat map shows that the seat not taken?
Any insights appreciated?

Have selected seats on AY J. A330 and A350.
But want to know what door (door 1 or door 2) disembarkation occurs on these aircraft at these airports: HEL for A350, PEK for A330
Any insights appreciated.

Not sure of the problem with UA.

As for Finnair, I've read three trip reports which all suggest boarding is via door 2 in HEL, this is supported by photos in this report: Finnair, Business Class – Airbus A 350: Helsinki to Beijing (the other reports either mention turning left on entering the aircraft, or mention a second cabin to the right on boarding).

Also in the same report it shows PEK uses two doors, although as a side note there's no guarantee which jet-bridge will be docked first. Quite often at PVG for example the second door will open before the first.
