>>>> ADDED 30 Sept 2010 <<<<

Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Re: SYD to JFK 14/1/2011 - Kangaroo or Pacific config?

[CURRENTLY], your 744 flight will have the following seat map:

This is a "Kangaroo" configuration.

Of course, 53K may be a better seat if it had been the standard Pacific Config.

Thanks Serfty.

I have another query - I changed my seat to row 52 but my online booking is saying that its 32K. I didn't think that the 744's in any config has a row 32?

Any light on this would be appreciated.

Re: SYD to JFK 14/1/2011 - Kangaroo or Pacific config?

Is this for SYD-LAX or LAX-JFK sector? If the latter, it'll be the seat on the 330-200.

If the former, the 2 class 744 has a row 32 (seats A+B+C only).

The "new" 3 class 744s (J, Y+, Y) have row 32 but it's in Y+.

Oherwise i'm out. FWIW also the A380 has no row 32.

Hmm interesting - its definitely for the SYD-LAX sector. I guess I'll find out when I board

Re: SYD to JFK 14/1/2011 - Kangaroo or Pacific config?

Sometimes there's issues with showing the seats for both legs of a flight.

What are you allocated for the LAX-JFK sector?

Re: SYD to JFK 14/1/2011 - Kangaroo or Pacific config?

When I log on this is what I see (see below image). When I changed my allocated seat from 53K to 52G the system then said I was in 32K. It didn't give me an option to select my seats on the LAX->JFK sector.

Re: SYD to JFK 14/1/2011 - Kangaroo or Pacific config?

This is the issue.

Qantas sells the flight as QF107 SYD-JFK. It does this for 1. simplicity and 2. so it only has to award FF points and SCs on the "one" flight. It does similar for eg. QF 1/2 to LHR via BKK, QF 29/30 MEL-LHR (via HKG) etc.

In reality, you're flying QF 107 SYD-LAX and QF107 LAX-JFK. Two flights but they use the same flight number.

It is operated by two different aircraft. Usually a 747 to LAX, and lately an airbus 330 from LAX-JFK (used tyo be a 747, not necessarily the same actual aircraft doing the first leg from SYD). The seating can only display one seat in the web page layout.

I would suspect unless something really weird has happened is that the web page is only showing one of the two (different) seats you'll have on the two different legs. With that seat number, my guess is that it'll be the seat on the 330 from LAX-JFK. This is not a certainty and there could be something else going on, but this is my interpretation.

Personally, i'd call QF and ask them what's been allocated for both legs and see waht you can get. Call up the seatmaps online for the various aircraft before ringing so you can see what it is they are offering you.

I called them today, looks like a glitch in the system. What was strange is that the system had amended my seat request in 52G, deleted the original of 53K and issue no replacement (so now in 52D, a disabled designated seat so could be bumped again).

Thanks for your help Doc

Qf582 per->syd

Hey there.

Im flying Business Class on QF582 on May 27th. I understand the PLane to be A332. How am I able to find out if its in the config of 44(?) or 36 Seat Business Class?

Is there any way to find out or just luck of the draw?

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Qf582 per->syd

Its 36 (EBM/N) at present looking at the seat map but 4 months is long time for plans to change, its not unusual for aircraft to be swapped the night before.

I have still not travelled on a QF A380.

What are people thoughts on 80AK, 71D or 50AC. What is bulkhead in economy like on the QF A380?

I guess 80AK would be the ideal seat as you do not have anyone in front and able to have a window view.

I've been in 52G which was ok - only issue I found was the number of people that came looking for the toilets

Yes agree but it can be drafty near the door. A lot quieter forward of the engines IMHO.

People that are searhing for toilets do not bother me it is other more important things I need to worry about. ;)

Only downside I can see with 80AK, 71D is if it the same as 24F on international configuration 767 then it feels totally weird sitting there with no seat directly in front but seats to the side. Not quite an exit row but enough of a distraction.

Any idea if CX745 from HKG to DXB on 31 Jan and CX738 from DXB to HKG on 4 Feb are international long haul flights with new J seats or regional J seats?

Am a newbie, and have a question about Qantas Advanced Seat selection. Am booked Per - MEL QF802 25/2 return MEL - PER on QF777 on 27/2. As a FF Silver status and Q Club member went to select my seats and nothing available forward of row 42. Will more forward seats open up closer to departure date, or is that as good as I am going to get?
