Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Seat 18b Upper Deck 747

Have booked a Oneworld J Airfare via Finnair through Travel Agent with the first
leg on a Qantas 747 to Hongkong. Have been allocated seat 18b, my husband
18a. We have no status at this stage and have heard Upper Deck seating is
reserved for Elite QFF normally. My question is, how bad is seat 18b??? Seat Guru
says it is the least desirable in the Upper Deck but seeing as we have no status
should I just accept 18b and be grateful I am upstairs or should we perhaps request seats in the main business cabin??? As per Checkmytrip, all other seats are either allocated or blocked in the upper deck.:confused:

Re: Seat 18b Upper Deck 747

Whilst I haven't sat specifically in 18b, I do prefer the upstairs J to the downstairs J on the B747's, so if it was me, I'd stick with row 18...

Re: Seat 18b Upper Deck 747

18A&B are standard business class seats. No better or worse than most others. Row 16 is the exit row and prized by many people.

If looking for an upper deck experience, I would be happy in row 16. But my personal preference is to be on the lower deck.

In my experience there is no such thing as a bad business class seat.

I would much rather be upstairs on a 747. I have been in row 11 which was good not having anyone in front and the other times have been in row 16 which is great but not easy to pre-allocate unless you have status.

I agree. I like the private cabin feel of upstairs. I haven't looked at seat guru but the only downside I can think of for this seat is that you will most likely be last in meal service. As JohnK says there really are no bad seats in J only better ones.
Enjoy your trip :)

Thanks for all your responses, I will stick with 18a/b. Actually this is the second
time we have been allocated these seats but chose to select 25k/j in lower deck
because of seat guru who said toilet and galley would be a problem, not to mention
being served last. Was a little disappointed as really wanted to fly Upper Deck. In the last couple of weeks before our flight there was an equipment change to an A380, how lucky were we?? Kept 25k/j the last row, but fabulous.
Would love it to happen again but not holding my breath.

seatguru show 18b being next to the galley (Noise) and WC depending how often it is used can be disturbing.

Seating is same for most J but with ear plugs and eye pads should have no problem.

But having said that I would prefer not sitting near either, try going into your booking and see if you can change your seat - some pax prefer upstairs - less seats ratio to facilites and generally not as much people noise.

If you ever get to experience EBO J (centre seat even), I would be interested in your comments
EBO J? Is this a QF aircraft registration?

If so I cannot believe it could be worse than sitting in an economy seat.

I find that hard to believe. I guess one would need to sit in these seats to make the comparison.

I don't think the seats are bad compared to Y, but when you consider the money paid for the seat it becomes a problem.

Y Per-Syd $250
J Per-Syd $1700

For the price difference we should expect a much better seat.

It may be better than sitting in Y, but I was wondering in terms of your statement that there was no such thing as a bad J seat.

You may well be right. I have not sat in these seats so cannot comment but generally I would say there is no such thing as a "bad" business class seat. OK there are "bad" business class seats (CX A330 business class comes to mind) but the comparison is relative.

Now is the seat as good as other business class seats or why does it cost the same as other business class seats. That is another matter and totally up to the individual whether to accept these seats or not.

If it is as bad as you say then personally I would not want to be paying a "premium" to sit in these seats. If it was an op-up then I would just gladly accept it. :)

Re: Unable to select seat on Qantas website (SYD-JFK)

Hi all, am also new here.

Have been allocated 29j and 29k on our flight from SYD to LAX and are flying with an economy ticket. All seating configurations that we have found have us either in Business class or Premium Economy seats. Is it possible that we have been accidentally placed in Business or Premium seats? Flight out of Sydney is in early 2011 QF107.

Re: Double SC Promo

On the FJ 744 a/c what are the best and worst business seats :?:

What are 5D & 5E like :?:

I did this last weekend. I took 1K and 1J - lots of leg room. But then at the times these flights are out of SYD it doesn't matter.

They arnt the best business class seat, but I think the SC's are the important part of the trip.

(and sometime next year the 744's are being replaced with ex-Singapore 777s

5D and E are fine, unless you want to look out a window.
