I'm flying to London on QF9 tonight with my young child in Premium economy and I've just noticed that qantas has removed our seat selection leaving us sitting at seperate ends of cabin. Has anyone else had issue with seat selections being removed from a booking a few hours out from the flight?

Just called and apparently airport control have moved us so we do still have seats together....

Its not unknown for that to happen, unfortunately. A high status passenger can request particular seats and you'll get bumped. Can I ask if you and your child have the same surnames and/or were on different tickets (maybe one paid, one a points ticket). If same name and/or on same ticket, then any move should keep the 2 people together, but I've heard of adult/child being split as they were on separate tickets.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm WP so I'm don't think it was a status thing. My child has the same surname and is 6 so had a booked seat. Flight turned out pretty bad as the entertainment system kept loosing sound on the first leg an the seat had a broken foot rest on the second leg.....

By 'stud' I think that was supposed to be 'status' auto-corrected :) ? Yes, as a WP you can still get bumped by a Chairman's Lounge or WP1 (as many of us have) pax who couldn't be bothered to select seat beforehand and just turned up at the airport and asked /demanded a certain (ie your) seat, or the pair. Child sitting with parent (same name etc) shouldn't be separated though.

There used to be a 'high profile' rugby union CEO who I think at least 2 of us WPs got bumped for on international flights.

On international flights I've done on QF, the system automatically pre-allocates seats - even when a points upgrade has come through at T-60.

As long as the CL member has an aisle or window seat request I would expect this to happen for them also provided whoever does the booking enters the CL number into the pnr.

I don't think seats being removed from pax eg WP's for CL pax happens as much as is touted here however not disputing the ARU event mentioned upthread.
